Allen and Co. brings the rich and famous home to Sun Valley

Idahoans may be resorting to “staycations” to fit into their recession-racked budgets but Sun Valley is expecting its usual deluge of power brokers, celebrities and high rollers next week at the 27th annual Allen and Co. retreat.

Investment banker Herbert Allen is hosting his conclave that fills the Wood River Valley and brings it own boom to the struggling Idaho economy. The Sun Valley-Ketchum Chamber & Visitors Bureau predicts 1,000 of the rich and famous will attend, reports the Mountain Express.

Allen made Sun Valley a must stop for billionaires who golf its courses, hike its backcountry trails, raft the Salmon River and fly fish on Silver Creek. In between they talk business, smooze and most famously make deals that are often the talk of the high tech and entertainment industry.

And to Ketchum businesses benefit their spouses and families shop.
The guest list is of course secret. That’s part of the Wood River Valley’s appeal is its casual approach to famous people.

But it is no secret that Bill and Melinda Gates, their friend Warren Buffett, Rupert Murdoch and other heavy-hitters are regulars.

Among this year’s attendees, the Hollywood Reporter says are Time Warner boss Jeff Bewkes; MySpace CEO Owen Van Natta and CBS President Leslie Moonves.

Maybe Allen will invite the Phantom Hill wolf pack this year.

Are wolves served with white sauce or red wine?

You sounded like the caterer, Rocky.
