Stop the name calling

I get it. We all have our causes we feel strongly about. But you should be able to get your point across without name calling. When I check flagged comments, I see many comments that have great arguments for or against that day's topics. But I'm deleting the comment because of the name calling.

Before you reply that person x got away with an attack and you didn't, know that we simply can't catch every instance. We don't moderate our comments.

Also, if commenters try to slip profanity by the filter, including filling in missing letters with * or # , their post will be deleted as they are found.

And if your remark is particularly offensive or you are a repeat offender, we will block you.

This shouldn't be a surprise to you as I'm sure you've read our guidelines:

* Don't flag a comment just because you disagree with the opinion. The goal of story comments is to allow discussion, not just one point of view.
* Don't insult one another or the subjects of our articles. If you think a comment violates our guidelines, click the "report abuse" button to notify us. Responding to the comment will only encourage bad behavior by those folks who just want the attention.
* Don't use profanities, vulgarities or hate speech. This is a general interest news site. Sometimes, there are children present. Don't say anything in a way you wouldn't want your own child to hear. Or anything you wouldn't want your mother to hear.
* Do not attack other users; focus your comments on issues, not individuals.
* Stay on topic. Only post comments relevant to the article at hand. If you want to discuss an issue with a specific user, click on his profile name and send him a direct message.
* Don't repeat the same comment over and over. We heard you the first time.
* Do not use the commenting system for advertising. That's spam and it isn't allowed.
* Don't use all capital letters. That's akin to yelling and not appreciated by the audience.

You should. I can't be the ire of an entire generation, no fun.

I'm more or less serious. It's tiring even if not time-consuming.

It's not really my job to keep an entire website in check.

At least send more diet root beer. Write better headlines with fewer errors also...all of us notice that.

It's incredibly easy to come back with virtually the same tag and continue as well, making being removed from the registration rolls a joke. You have no useful controls on this site whatsoever.

You removed the create content option to combat spam without dealing with it. Nobody gets use of it. That wasn't moderation either.

Contrary to what you might believe, I really like these forums. What I don't relish is that your reporters are prone to doing the exact same things you complain about. If you don't want it, don't flamebait and do not troll. The derision you perceive has been encouraged by not letting sleeping dogs lie. If Perez Hilton is your ideal, emulate him but please don't call it part of Idaho's premier newspaper.

Nearly two years ago when I arrived this site was on it second or maybe third incarnation and it was the wild west with RSS. I would suggest you guys try and mold the image of this paper like your future depended on it (it really doesn't in my opinion but I'm not trendy or blindsided like other media bloggers who hold a deathwatch over newspapers).

Nobody trusts you a lot. WHY? This ain't funny. Curing this site's woes is a two-way street. Without that it will ALWAYS fall apart like this.

Thank you for listening.

Thank you for hollering.

One more thing that is especially childish on your part,

We expect McClatchy Newspapers to exercise uniform standards about language deemed inappropriate for user comments.

We are irked to no end that words allowed in AP, Idaho Statesman, McClatchy or stories from other sources are allowed to get away with using the very words McClatchy autocensors.

We look to your writers and editorial style to determine how to communicate within the essenses of our personalities. YOU are that guide and you fall apart as much as we do.

This is why I say you have no control over these problems. I personally don't think you want to deal with these things. It's more of a free speech experiment than discussion forums to your staff, especially Mr. Richert.

One has to decide ones goals and adhere to that path.

Are you ever going to get what you or McClatchy (or Pioneer, your eventual owner) want from this? Does this paradigm truly exist in this region?

I could've written to the editor but that ignores it here. We don't mind helping but we don't have much of a clue that you know what you want.

Thank you.

By the way, how do either you or I get rid of junk instead of...

apostrophes and stuff in the text and especially headlines that AP spits out?

When and how to make it ENGLISH again?

There is no life in Idaho...it is a mirror site on god's server. You were dreaming but it is over. Go to your residence and await our commands and THEN we will restore control...
