Sawtooth trails shaping up
We were traveling about 5 miles up the trail along the North Fork of Baron Creek out of Grandjean this weekend and came across two backpackers who came over from Redfish Lake.
They said the trail was pretty good but they did run into snow at 8,000 feet.
The trail we were on was in good shape and dry. The creek crossings were fast and knee to hip deep in places. The water was cold.
Backpacking season is beginning in the high country. We'll have more updates in Thursday's Idaho outdoors for the Fourth of July Weekend.
Incidentally, the mid-elevation trails around Grandjean were great and provided lots of opportunities for hiking.
The South Fork of the Payette River is clear up there but running swift.
Camping was great, except for a full-on lightning and rainstorm.
