Freshman tight end Josh Hill of Blackfoot has transferred to Idaho State, the Bengals announced Tuesday. Hill walked on at Boise State last year and redshirted.

Hill, the Blackfoot Morning News 4A/5A Player of the Year in 2007, will be eligible to play this season.

Idaho State only has one experienced tight end. At Boise State, Hill was stuck behind senior Richie Brockel, junior Tommy Gallarda, sophomore Kyle Efaw and freshman Chandler Koch — all scholarship players.

I checked out the Broncos' player-run practice Monday afternoon at Bronco Stadium. The workouts have come a long way since the Broncos started doing full-team summer practices in 2004. The players practice three days a week, with an efficient 45-minute schedule.

"With the kids we have in this program, it’s such an advantage for us that the NCAA doesn’t allow you to coach them in the summer,” coach Chris Petersen said. “… We have kids who really have it figured out in terms of how important summer is. They can organize things, they take charge and it fosters unity.”

I'll have more on the "PRPs" in Thursday's newspaper.

A Wall Street Journal article earlier this spring linked experience on the offensive line to success, with eight of last year's top 10 teams beginning the year with at least 65 career starts on the line.

Boise State, which finished 11th last year with little line experience, has 40 career starts spread among six players this season. Notre Dame and Virginia Tech each have 100 career starts. Oregon, Boise State's season-opening foe, is listed as a team to worry about with just 20 line starts among its returners.

Here's a link to the article.

Breaking news from the Wall Street Journal.....

Players who have played before are better than those that haven't...... Nice sports reporting. Is the economy so bad that they now have indexes for this in the WSJ?

Returning starters with multiple touchdowns last year will lead the NCAA in scoring......

Dang, now all I need is a dying form of media to print this. Perhaps the telegraph or maybe just a fishwrap.

As for the transfer.... Was U of I just beneath him or what?

sounds like the kid went where he can get PT.

"Idaho State only has one experienced tight end."

Idaho has 1 SR and 2 JR guys at TE, plus incoming 6-5 200 Homme out of Washington.

He can play right away!

If he transfers down to the FCS (Division 1-AA) then he can begin playing this season and have all 4 remaining years of eligibility. If he transfers to another FBS (Division 1-A) then he'd have to sit out this first season and then only have 3 remaining seasons of eligibility. And the more obvious.....not much competition at that position at Idaho State right now. It's the best situation for him.

Plenty of 1-AA teams that

Plenty of 1-AA teams that kids would rather play for than UofI.

Even Stanford.
