Football Friday: A trip across the WAC; Boise State's Byrd named to Rimington watch list

Boise State sophomore center Thomas Byrd has been named to the preseason Rimington Trophy watch list. The award is given to the nation's top collegiate center.

Byrd, a 5-foot-11, 275-pound redshirt sophomore, is one of just five sophomores on the list. He is also one of five WAC centers on the list, joining Joe Bernardi (Fresno State), Ronnie Castillo (San Jose State), John Estes (Hawaii) and Lon Roberts (Louisiana Tech).

• With college football season a mere three months away, here’s a quick recap of some of what is happening around the WAC:

Hawaii has signed up for a four-game series with Army.

Utah State’s new coach — Gary Andersen — has some believers.

Louisiana Tech, which I think could be a sleeper in the WAC this year, is making progress.

People in Boise are pretty familiar with the Bear Pascoe story. But the former Fresno State tight end is getting some love from the Bay Area writers. Pascoe was drafted by the 49ers.

• This is one of the sweetest hockey goals you will ever see. I saw it live and simply couldn’t believe it. I must have watched it five times with the DVR.

Yes, I know it’s hard to believe but somebody was able to find hockey live on television.

Evgeni Malkin is his name.

• I have signed up with Twitter, thus officially making it uncool. But if you want to follow me, here.

True sophomore?

"Byrd, a 5-foot-11, 275-pound true sophomore, is one of just five sophomores on the list."

Murph,

How can he be a true sophomore when he redshirted in 2007?

He's an RS sophomore

Good catch Cherokee Guy. Byrd did redshirt in 2007.

FOOTBALL SEASON

WILL THERE BE A SEASON WITH THE SWINE FLU PREDICTED TO KILL 9 MILLION TO 2 BILLION PEOPLE IN THE NEXT YEAR AND A HALF? MY MY-WHAT ARE THE PRIORITIES?

Priorities? For you I would recommend counseling and meds...

and learing some netiquette, i.e. not 'shouting' when commenting.
Other than that...fooooootballlll.

It's hard to type with your pinkies extended though.

If your going to quote some one do it right

Murph wrote: "Byrd, a 5-foot-11, 275-pound redshirt sophomore, is one of just five sophomores on the list." The key here is "redshirt" Note, he never used the term "true" that was your doing. Of course be the butt faces you guys always are and don't apologize.

Wha?

Are you dissing the sort you date? How bold.

Murph, I find live hockey on

Murph, I find live hockey on the tube all the time. It beats the heck out of watching crappy nba "basketball"? any time. And how many casualties from the latest medical scare/scam campaign? Get a grip people. Swine flu was a bust back in the 70's and will be again. It is only used to sell vaccines that do more harm than good so the drug companies can make some extra coin and the hospitals rake in some too with all the problems they cause with the "cure". Just so you know, there will be about 35,000 people die this year from viral diseases. This thing they are trying to call an epidemic has killed what, two? Yeah, let's kill any probability of all pastimes so we can brood over a made up epidemic. Remember, we had 6 vaccinated kids get whooping cough a few years ago and it was an epidemic.

Maybe it got you first.

Pertussis is a serious disease and if not for the vaccines a lot of people would be dying.

It's not the common cold, son. Perhaps you have forgotten that AMERICANS were falling to diseases you don't hear about much 55-60 years ago. If they didn't tell us, it would be insignificant but there is still no need for ignorance about it.

live?

If you saw this "live" you were not in front of a TV. Sounds like you've been spending too much time watching TV. Try some "live" activities - hiking, biking, camping, sky diving. Just remember, when you're in front of the TV you need to get a "life".

My life is for telling your life "Ahh, Mom, knock it off"!
