Bleymaier calls cuts 'daunting task'; Broncos still working on TV deal
By Chadd Cripe and Brian Murphy
Boise State athletic director Gene Bleymaier said Wednesday he won’t know how much he has to cut his budget until next month, but he expects “significant cuts” for 2009-10.
“It’s still a daunting task, which we knew it would be,” Bleymaier said.
Bleymaier just recently was told that the athletic department’s state- and university-appropriated funds will be cut by 6.15 percent, which equals $173,800. That’s a little less than Bleymaier expected.
Bleymaier wants to make the cuts in a way that “minimizes the negative impact on student-athletes.” The budget likely will be submitted to the State Board of Education for its June 18-19 meeting.
In addition to the state cuts, Bleymaier is dealing with rising scholarship and travel costs and declining endowment revenue. He also must estimate football season-ticket revenue.
He asked coaches to submit budgets showing 3, 6 and 9 percent budget reductions to get ideas for cuts.
“It’s difficult because we’re not fat in any area,” Bleymaier said. “… We’re looking everywhere. We’re looking at every line item and trying to determine if we can live without it.”
The situation is more dire at Hawaii, which is facing a large deficit, according to the Honolulu Advertiser.

Boise State has not reached an agreement to televise its non-ESPN football games this fall.
Boise State’s contract with KTVB Channel 7 expires in June. The school is trying to reach a one-year agreement with the station for 2009-10, athletic department spokesman Max Corbet said.
Boise State has signed a contract with Learfield Sports to sell the broadcast rights for 2010 and beyond.
ESPN or its affiliates will broadcast six Bronco football games this fall. Seven games remain, including home games with Miami (Ohio), UC Davis, San Jose State, Idaho and New Mexico State.

cuts
raise the fees to get into a girls baseball game or get rid of girls baseball.
TITLE IX was enacted about 40 years ago.
Womens' sports have to have parity to get all the candy for the rest. That's the law.

huh?
"Bleymaier wants to make the cuts in a way that “minimizes the negative impact on student-athletes.”
Don't women qualify as student athletes? or is it only football players?
CUTS vs RAISES
Wasn't it Bleymaier that had a 35K raise (reported Dec. 5th 2008 Idahostatesman) with a 5 year contract. When they say the atheltic's budget isnt fat they aren't looking hard enough!
PS With the way KTVB's contract was decimated...
why in the hell should they care to renew? They were fiscally RAPED.

What goes around comes around
I wonder if BSU misses the amount of $ our family has spent as season ticket holders for football and basketball over the years. A simple response from the president of BSU or the police department pertaining to a letter I wrote about $25 parking ticket my wife and I received at a basketball game would have benefited the athletic program many dollars of donations and season tickets purchases but you chose to not respond. As a handicap we felt the ticket was unjustified and now we have choosen to no longer purchase any tickets or attend any sports events the past 2 years. BSU could have saved our yearly participation with the university with one simple response. I hope your $25 parking ticket benefited the U more than our season ticket purchases and donations.
Grow up.
Well then, the big question boils down to this: did you park illegally? The answer is clearly "yes". Did anyone force you to park there? Did you make the decision as an adult to park illegally? "Yes" again? Pay the ticket and live with the results of your actions.
Many years ago as a student, I volunteered to help with parking at an event and was amazed at how poorly I was treated by all the "handicap" people that felt they were entitled to do whatever they wanted to, without regard for the rules (or anyone else's safety by blocking driveways and fire lanes); for example, arriving late and expecting a parking space right up front. Over the years, since then, I've seen how people of the same mindset you have treat the parking people, the ushers, security, police, etc.
Plan ahead, park legally, and there are no problems. Everyone wants a spot up close. I park over a mile away and walk because it's good exercise. If you can't make the walk, take a shuttle or cab. If you can afford the game, you can afford a cab--or take a free shuttle.
So if you want to pout because they didn't waive your ticket, then stay home. You obviously aren't a very loyal fan if you're willing to walk away over something as trivial as this. I'll make an extra donation to cover for you.
Well, yeah...eat your spinach. Puts hair on your scalp.

BSU Athletic Salaries
Check out this link from the Idaho State Board of Education Feb. 2009 meeting agenda info. Notice in the BSU 2009FY salary increases for those who work in the athletic dept. Any where from 3%-42% raises.
I think we know where they can cut their costs.
Not from the football coaches, but check out the other coaches and the administrative salaries. We are in the WAC, come on, who deserves a 34% or 42% raise increase?

bootbreath4414..
you know absolutely nothing about the situation so shut your lip..when HDCP was available in from of the Kinesiology building and we were we not permitted to part there because the BAA reserve parking policy which is illegal for hdcp, there is a problem. Walk a mile in my shoes before you pop off. I do not ask for special privileges any where it is not available but the situation should not have occurred...so go suck on you baby pacifier and YOU calm down..And if you are a BSU basketball attendent, I hope you enjoy the mickey mouse caliber bb program.
If you have proper documentation to use the spaces, call ITD...
You must have an authorized sign displayed in the window or a valid state plate. DISPLAYED is the word.
Disability parking isn't a suggestion, it's the LAW.
Now, with that out of the way, quit with the spasming and stuff.

Funny how he talks about
Funny how he talks about cutting programs and funding, but never mentions cutting his salary. I'm sure all the coaches, staff, etc would lose money before the AD. I'm sure his salary could be cut and he still wouldnt be starving. More likely they'll be cuts to programs, equipment and other items that help the student-athletes.
