Is Kyle Wilson a first-rounder?

An article published this weekend by USA Today and written by the publisher of NFLDraftScout.com names Boise State cornerback Kyle Wilson the No. 32 senior prospect in the country. That would put him in contention to become the Broncos' second first-round draft pick, although the underclassmen who jump into the draft will push that initial ranking down.

Wilson, who ran a sub-4.4-second 40-yard dash at the Broncos' pro day for returning players, is helped by the demand for cornerbacks in the NFL (just look at this year's draft) and his punt-return skills. If he runs a similar time at the NFL Scouting Combine, that would be significantly better than any cornerback ran at this year's NFL Scouting Combine.

Here's a link to the article.

The Philadelphia papers had a nice story on former Broncos safety Quintin Mikell last week. Here's the link.

He should be

but this will be a big year for him. He should dominate the WAC secondary. He seems to be following the footsteps of Chris Carr.

Good footsteps to follow in.

Good footsteps to follow in. Oh yeah, what round did Carr get drafted in again??

Jersey Boy

I always saw something special in Wilson when he was on the field. I remember when Ian was selling his beanies thinking that kid is going to be something and look what a legacy he left. Here's to a big year for you Wilson and good luck after college ball. Hope the draft is nicer to you than it was to Ian.

Good luck..Kyle..and keep em

Good luck..Kyle..and keep em in front of you.

Limbaugh is hard of seeing too. He can't see reality when it's staring him in the face. Now what does that windbag have to do with a classy individual like Kyle Wilson?

Beethoven may have been deaf

Beethoven may have been deaf and what in the world that has to do with Rush or Kyle is beyond any reasoning. Not witty in any way and I am mad I wasted my time even perusing such idiocy. Kyle Wilson will be a No. 1 pick. Bank on it.

Oh be quiet. It's a signature file and available to use here.

I case you didn't learn a damned thing about analogies in high school or college (and why should you, it's the age of whatever), move closer to the screen, clean the crud so you don't squint and take a gander at this:

Bottom of the left column, click My account, leading you to a page at this URL...

Just look at the film and numbers

The Pro Day stats and youtube videos speak volumes. The stock keeps rising.

Kyle Wilson, CB, Boise State, 5-10, 190: Last year, averaged 14.2 yards on punt returns with three touchdowns, five interceptions, 10 pass breakups and 15 passes defended.

Trevard Lindley, CB, Kentucky, 6-0,178: Last year, 11 breakups and four interceptions.

Javier Arenas, CB, Alabama, 5-9, 198: three punt returns for touchdowns in his career

He'll never go first round, much less #1 overall.

Unfortunately, his association with the WAC is his only negative. He can change this ONLY if he was a stellar game against non-conference teams, especially against Oregon in the first game. If Boise State can make a BCS Bowl game at the end of the season, he would need to play great there, as well.

So, again, the WAC hurts Boise State players.

Did being in the WAC hurt Clady?

Being in the WAC certainly did not hurt Ryan Clady, and it won't hurt Kyle Wilson. So why do you write Kyle Wilson off so quickly? It seems you're inventing this stigma. The media is giving him accolades despite his association with the WAC. Does being in the WAC improve his 40 time? Can you base his instincts as a DB on his conference? Hardly.

Re: Clady

I would say Clady's biggest asset was his performance in the Fiesta Bowl. If he didn't perform well, he wouldn't have gone as high as he had. If Clady wasn't in the WAC, he would have gone higher.

But, there a number of WAC players that had great college careers, but either were drafted low or not at all. Why is that? How is it that other conferences' players can have "bad games" and still get drafted high? How do you explain Colt Brennan going 6th round? Or Zabransky and IJ not getting drafted at all? Hell, Ian johnson had 2nd or 3rd fastest 40 time at the NFL combine of EVERYONE there. Yet, he doesn't get drafted either? It's because of the conference. Most people don't think excelling and putting up great stats in the WAC means anything. The competition level isnt strong, resulting in easy stat-padding.

I predict he'll go no higher than #25 overall.

Re: Re: Clady

Clady's biggest asset was his utter dominance as a tackle in both pass protection, and opening up a hole for a back. His Fiesta bowl performance definitely did not hurt him, but I believe the reason he didn't go higher was because there just wasn't a need for a tackle after Jake Long until Denver picked him up.

True, many WAC players had great college careers and did not get drafted, but that is true of many BCS conference players as well. Having a great college career does not mean that player will translate well to the NFL. Tim Tebow may arguably leave Florida as one of the best college quarterbacks to ever play, but many doubt his ability to succeed at the next in that position. I agree with you, many players who are borderline NFL types may get overlooked because they are in the WAC, but the truly elite players are what they are, regardless of conference. Many FCS players get drafted, notably Joe Flacco, because they look like NFL types on film, regardless of team, conference, or division.

Let me just say that I agree Ian may have gotten screwed, but In my opinion he did nothing after his sophomore year to show he was worthy of the NFL until he hit the combine. I think his combine showing was worthy of a at least a 7th round pick, but hey, best of luck to him. As for Zabransky, I never thought he would make a good pro. He didn't have the arm strength to make all the throws. And as for the stat padding, you're right. But like several posters before me stated, thats why the scouts study film on prospects.

correct me if I'm wrong but wouldn't the #25th pick still be in the first round? I think you got confused when someone misstated that he would be "a number 1 pick..." I think they meant a 1st round pick. In which case we are all in agreement and this conversation can come a pleasant closure.

Geez.

The WAC did not hurt Clady becuase of his position. There is not a whole lot of finesse involved in making sure a guy does not get by you. Besides, in addition to the WAC being a mediocre conference, it is playing on the blue turf that pro scouts tend to not like. A position that requires more brain strength and better eyesight then the lineman position, such as DB or RB, is heavily scritinized by the NFL scouts that take all things into consideration when viewing a player...even the use of blue jerseys on blue turf. Scouts do not like that stuff. It is an advantage that Bronco Nation tends not to speak much of. Conviently.

True Blue!!!

Signitures on a blog are a waste of everyones time. foreignoregonian should be sued for stealing other readers time while they read the irrelevant signitures left at the end of a rather weak post just to see if it will help make sense of the whole thing. Hows that for a signiture?

Wow

I guess that means Oregon and Baylor have an advantage playing on green turf?

WOW! Where did you conjure

WOW! Where did you conjure up that theory? Is that the reason no Broncos were drafted this year? That is crazier than the "nobody wants to play on it" excuse. There must be some sort of magical spell put on this specific brand of turf that isnt on the turf of any other stadium. IT'S MAGIC TURF!!! Give me a break

It IS!

We ordered extra mojo this time. You missed that?
