Boise State posts WAC's highest football APR

The Boise State football team leads the WAC in the Academic Progress Rates released by the NCAA on Wednesday. Boise State posted a 966, well above the Football Bowl Subdivision overall score of 941. The APR is a combination of athlete eligibility and retention. All schools below 925 face the potential of sanctions. San Jose State has been docked five scholarships and had its practice time cut, according to USA Today, but so far has avoided the more extreme postseason ban.

Here are the WAC football numbers:

1. Boise State, 966
2. Fresno State, 948
3. Nevada, 945
4. Hawaii, 935
5. Louisiana Tech, 934
6. Utah State, 931
T-7. Idaho, 905
T-7. New Mexico State, 905
9. San Jose State, 888

Outside of football, USA Today reports that several WAC programs face sanctions, including the Boise State men's golf program. Others include Louisiana Tech and New Mexico State men's basketball and San Jose State men's soccer.

Great Job Gents!

Oh my gosh. Say it ain't so Vandals.......... I can hear it now "but UofI is such a academically tougher school"....LMAO!!!!!

Hello Vadals...hello

Oh yeah it's 4 o'clock...you must be drunk!

Actually it's 3 o'clock in

Actually it's 3 o'clock in Moscow but I'm pretty sure the results are the same.

WHAT??????????? NOW WAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

All we ever hear from the Vandull bloggers is what a supreme school of education that resides in Moscow, Idaho....guess the football program didn't get the message....so I would like to suggest that the Vandull bloggers send their blogs to the Vandull football program at the Kibble and Bits dome and leave the rest of us alone!!!!!

BWAAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

O.M.G. Whatever will the Vandals do now? Their only comeback...their only (albeit imagined) consolation...was that U of I was better academically and their athletes would at least have a better degree. HA HA HA HA!!! Boise State Football Players are the best academically in the WAC. U of I is at MINUS SEVEN!! :-))))))

Come on, Vandals..let's hear it! Where are you now?

(Do I hear sobbing??)

Let me explain

The APR reflects how many players eventually get any degree from any school. Erickson and Holt had very short-term goals during their stints as Idaho's coach -- mainly to move on to another job as soon as possible. For this reason, they brought in as many athletic thugs, criminals, and academic "underperformers" as they could without regard for the long term consequences. When Akey took over, he promptly booted all these types off the team. This was the right thing to do IMO, but it KILLED Idaho's APR. It will continue to do so for the next couple years because the APR is calculated based on a 4-year window that still includes those players. In a couple years, Akey's initial cuts will be off the books and Idaho's APR will skyrocket.

Also, in response to above comments, when Vandals talk about the academic superiority of their school, they're talking about the university-wide academic performance (research grants and accomplishments, respected graduate programs, university-wide graduation and retention rates). U of I remains the clear in-state winner in those categories by a ridiculously wide margin.

Errr...Wha?

Let me get this straight..The Vandals scored low, because 2 previous coaches recruited "Athletic thugs.." presumably because these players provide a much improved team, at the expense of their academics, correct? I mean, if your recruiting people that help you attain your short term goal of success and then promotion, you recruit the best of the best. (or at least the best you can get) In both these areas, academics and athletics, THESE WERE MISERABLE FAILURES.
Now, like a blind U of I fan, your missing the point. I however, see something very amusing.

BSU leads the U of I by 61. Here I was thinking football season hadn't started yet.

U of I

It seems to me that the U of I has claimed the "Preeminent Idaho University" status for ...well, forever. Preeminent in what? Is this the best they can do? Maybe if they sent their team BSU for summer school we could help them improve - in the interest of helping Moscow retain the "Preeminent Idaho University" thing. We wouldn't want them to look bad.

Congratulations BSU

Don't forget the BSU Men's tennis team's perfect 1000 APR.

Yeah, after they got rid if

Yeah, after they got rid of a few academic deadbeats.

I was wondering what Annual Percentage Rate was doing here.

Really??????

Good job Broncos, kind of hard to defend this one candles?

Boy you guys are ignorant.

Do any of you actually know what the number means? Obviously not because if you did, you would not be making stupid comments trying to compare BSU and Idaho. First off, Idaho is the premier institution in the State. There are way too many facts backing that up to list here. Secondly, Idaho's number is down due to the number of scholarships that we lost when we had a coach willing to do the right thing and kick off 20 individuals that were otherwise eligible. That goes against our score which is why you don't see any of our teams with further actions taken against them. BSU has a golf team with sanctions pending according to this article, but no U of I programs. Huh? Pretty weird. It is easy for BSU to get a high number because they are coming from such a low level. Do your research on the variables that go towards the number and then try and make informed comments. If you can read of course!

I can read, but I don't give a damn anyway.

Can you imagine the U of I

Can you imagine the U of I with less scholarships. Most the players don't deserve 1A anyway, but fewer. What a wreck that school is. When will the State Board of Education stop this disaster? Money wasting, embarrassment. I_D_A_H_O IDAHO! IDAHO! GO TO CLASS! And 1AA.

How many UI football players

How many UI football players were also recruited by Harvard? Just sayin'. Maybe you Vandals need to re-examine your stereotypes.

Does Havard play football? Oh, wait, yes. Go Harvard, beat Army?

BJC grade point sucks

So your ahead now because we kicked 20 players off the team but your Grade point average is still in the bottom of the WAC at TRUCK DRIVER U!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Nice name change, same pointless dude. Maintain a job, padre.

How many vandals does it take to change a tire? Two: one to hold the beer and one to call daddy.

There are 8 million Les Schwabs in the Naked Idaho? So?

Typical Vandal troll...

Fails to see that his comment just shot his school down further. U of I has one of the WORST player graduation rates in the WAC. BSU has the HIGHEST. Your trying to brag that you have a higher GPA but cant graduate?

?

This is just for the football players, a very small percentage of an entire university. Do not see how it reflects on the entire student body, good or bad.

"A major in eligibility, with a minor in beating the system,"

Former Boise State safety Marty Tadman took the easiest classes when he was in school. "You're going to school so you can stay in sports," Tadman said. "You're not going for a degree. ... It's a joke."

WACupcakes

BSU FAILS.

Can't have enough Comm. Majors! WTF is a Communications Major...?! LMAO

Boise....

is not the only school in the country that has had athletes like that. As far as communications is concerned, I did not major in communications, but I took several 300 level comm. courses and they were not the cakewalk that you Vandulls claim. Meanwhile, you Vandulls continue to vote for this extremely conservative environment in which we live in and at the same time expect the extremely conservative politicians to actually fund your beloved institution. (I say you guys vote for it because you represent the majority of the population of the state.) When will you Vandulls ever wake up and realize that voting for the same party and the same stuff over and over and over again is not necessarily the best thing for your institution? You claim you're smarter, yet you don't know how to vote?! LMAO!!!

Someone working on local TV, I'd bet.

I see the re-education camp didn't help you any, comrade. We shall try harder this time.

From What I Understand...

...BSU leads the WAC in APR for football, men's basketball, tennis and two running teams. They lead in 5 areas! :-)

You guys are pathetic

Are you guys serious? You are arguing over who has the better APR between Idaho and BSU? NEWSFLASH!! Both schools are a joke. Idaho doesnt even belong in D1. When you have schools scheduling you as a tune up over the likes of many 1AA schools, something is wrong. Your entire sports program is a joke and soon will be moved back to where you belong. BSU is even worse. First you claim to be this great sports powerhouse. Yeah you win a few games, but you beat up on the aformentioned UofI and the rest of the crap you call a conference then choke when it comes to playing the big boys. You want to know what's keeping you out of the Mountain West or, dare I say, the Pac-10 is your achedemics. They dont want you because it would drag down their standing. Nobody is "afraid" to play in your little town. Moral of the story, both schools are a joke. Period

I still think a high APR is a bad idea especially on VISA
