Boise County Republicans vote "non-confidence" in Otter vetos
Boise County Republicans have condemned Gov. Butch Otter's recent vetoes aimed at convincing lawmakers to increase taxes for transportation.
County Chairman John Blatter has written state GOP officials to convey the Boise County Party's action on Monday, after the governor vetoed 10 bills. On Tuesday, he vetoed another 25, hoping to convince lawmakers to raise taxes for roads and bridges.
Blatter suggested that Otter may be threatening prospects of his re-election in 2010.
"The actions of the Governor do not bode well for Governor's Office in the near term nor the future, especially when considering up coming elections," Blatter said in an e-mail to GOP officals. "We cannot initiate a legacy of higher taxation in a weakening economy."
Blatter was among the 2,500 people who protested tax increases at last week's Tea Party in Boise. Otter has said the tea party protests weren't aimed at his gas tax increases. In fact, the crowd did shout its opposition to gas tax increase, along with hostility to increases in income, sales and property taxes.
Here is a portion of an e-mail Blatter said he sent to the GOP's region 3 officials.
"I would like to inform you of an action taken by Boise County Central Committee meeting this week. We oppose any increase in taxation and are dismayed at the actions recently taken by the Governor through his many vetoes. In this deepening recession, which is not at the point of a turn-around yet, this is no time to further burden the residents of Idaho. The actions of the Federal Government in the bail-out of financial entities has already cast a pall over the American people for generations to come. We do not need to exacerbate the problem at the state level. The actions of the Governor do not bode well for Governor's Office in the near term nor the future, especially when considering up coming elections. We cannot initiate a legacy of higher taxation in a weakening economy. Therefore, the Boise County Central Committee has passed a vote of 'Non-confidence' based upon Governor Otter's recent veto actions."

So, what does that mean?
Does a "non-confidence" vote carry any action?
KUDOS MR BLATTER
I wish others would stand up and tell government it is wrong at this time to increase taxes as "butchie tight blue jeans" wants now. The quote "elite" do not feel the pinch we have in the country and state right now, "govy" being one of them.
Keep up the good fight and the citizens will take care of the "govy" come next election...go John Blatter..one last question...does the gov think 35 veto's and counting is an adequate blackmail...we'll see at the next election time "butchie"..
Hopefully it means Boise
Hopefully it means Boise County will secede from the state and go it alone, wahoooooooooooo!
You could build bars, brothels and casinos!

Boise County GOP may want to keep its head in the sand...
... but fiscally conservative and prudent Idahoans want and expect their government to maintain its roads. It only costs more as we delay this further. Now when gasoline prices are somewhat down and after 20 years of no increase in the gas tax, it's time we step up to the plate and do what's long overdue. Keep up the good fight, Gov. Otter.
It'll be around $2.60 by Labor Day...I can make this statement

Watch what you ask for, it will bite you eventually.
Roads are needed but this is frustrated grandstanding and since they have rebuilt most of the interstate from LaGrande to the Nevada line over the last ten years I really can't give a damn unless the bridges and hazards are done well before adding more lanes to get to your wreck on Milwaukee or Fairview more quickly.
When Idaho can't eat or heal their sick WHO CARES about some road to make 95 and 84 link?

I'm waiting for the bad news though, it's abnormal without it.

Boise County?
The impact of Boise County GOPs is so minimal on the overall state GOPs. Somebody must have been desperate for something to write about. What a waste of space.
Then why waste your own space?
I think it's silly to condemn the Boise County GOP's for their action. If they want to do this because it's what they believe in let them, and frankly since they did, it deserves to be reported. Sounds like someone wants the governor to get his way. Many of these bills that Otter vetoed were actually education bills. Pitching a fit isn't executing your authority properly. I'm glad that the GOP can see that for themselves, even if it is a small percentage! Tip of the hat to them.
