There's plenty to do this weekend if you're a high school sports fan
Looking for something to do Thursday, Friday or Saturday, then look no further than the high school sports schedule.
Baseball: Finally, the top two teams in the 5A Southern Idaho Conference will meet on the diamond. Timberline hosts the Mustangs at 6 p.m. Thursday, then the Wolves head to Eagle for a 6 p.m. Friday game. Eagle enters the first game atop the league standings with a 15-1 league record, suffering its only SIC loss to Centennial on April Fools' Day. Timberline is 14-2 in SIC competition after losing to Meridian on Monday. The Wolves' only other conference loss this season was at Capital on March 16.
Tennis: The Capital Classic invades 12 Treasure Valley venues beginning at 9:30 a.m. Friday and continues at 8 a.m. Saturday. Championship matches are scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. Saturday at Julia Davis Park.
Venues: Boys singles at Julia Davis Park, Fort Boise and Timberline; girls singles at Mountain View, Sawtooth Middle (Meridian) and Meridian High; boys doubles at Capital and Borah; girls doubles at Rocky Mountain and Heritage Middle (Meridian); mixed doubles at Centennial and Lewis & Clark Middle (Meridian).
Schools competing: Bishop Kelly, Boise, Borah, Caldwell, Capital, Centennial, Columbia, Eagle, Ferris (Wash.), Hermiston (Ore.), Idaho Falls, Jerome, Kamiakin (Wash.), Lewiston, Madison, Meridian, Mountain View, Nampa, Ogden (Utah), Parma, Pasco (Wash.), Rocky Mountain, Skyline, Skyview, Timberline, Twin Falls, Vallivue and Wood River.
Track and field: The YMCA Invitational is back and should again feature some of the top performances this season as many of the state's best runner's jumpers and throwers arrive at Bronco Stadium. Competition begins at 5:30 p.m. Friday with finals in six field events (girls shot put, pole vault, triple jump and high jump, and boys triple jump and discus) and three running events finals (200, 1,600 and 300 hurdles). The remaining event high school finals begin at 10 a.m. Saturday and should wrap up around 3 p.m.

Plenty to do
If there is "plenty" to do in high school sports this week, why don't we see anything about the smaller schools? Surely 3A, 2A and 1A are also playing somewhere. It's getting to the point where it's impossible to find anything at all in the Statesman (or on the blogs) unless you are interested in the Boise, Nampa, or Caldwell schools. The Treasure Valley *does* extend to the western border of the state! There are some awesome teams out that way who would also love to see their names in the paper.
Mostly STAY INDOORS and avoid lightning and wind and hail...

Millions of people like Beethoven.
