Boise State pro day: Childs explains decision to go pro, gets a chance to impress scouts

Former Boise State wide receiver Jeremy Childs ran and caught passes for NFL scouts Tuesday at the Broncos’ pro day.

Childs also addressed his reasons for leaving school after his junior season. Childs said financial considerations, particularly caring for his 4-year-old daughter, Nya, and his mother, played a large part in his decision.

"I've got some personal issues with my daughter. I've got to take care of her. My mom, she doesn't really have a place to live," Childs said.

Childs ran lackluster 40-yard dash times during last month’s NFL Scouting Combine. He was timed at 4.55 and 4.57 seconds during his two attempts. Childs was faster Tuesday.

Childs said he was disappointed in his combine time, so switched trainers. All times are unofficial at the event, but Childs said he was clocked as fast as 4.46 seconds.

"People see me as a possession receiver, which is OK. I feel that I could be both a possession receiver and a vertical threat," he said. "I came out here to prove my speed. My combine time wasn't the one I wanted. So I came out here to improve that and I did what I had to do."

Former Boise State tailback Ian Johnson participated in some drills, but did not run the 40. Among the other former Broncos taking part in the drills: wide receivers Vinny Perretta, Tanyon Bissell and Julian Hawkins, tight end Chris O’Neill and offensive linemen Jon Gott and Andrew Woodruff.

WHAT??

He shouldn't have to disuss or explain anything to anyone about why he chose to go pro. That was his choice. I am sure if some of you thta was in his position would do the same.

GA_BOy....why are you acting

GA_BOy....why are you acting as if people were questioning the decision, almost angry about it? It is his decision and it is a question that was asked in a respectful manner, just as his answer was, respectful. He wants to take care of his family. Don't make it into something it isn't. Jeremy, thank you for your time and dedication to the Bronco program. I wish you all the luck in the world!!

Why did you clerk a Stinker Station? Why else, Holmes?
