Lake City High's Katie Baker was named Idaho's 2008-09 Gatorade girls basketball player of the year Thursday, taking home the honor for the third consecutive year.
The 6-foot-1 senior led the Coeur d'Alene-based Timberwolves to a 17-9 record and a berth in the 5A state tournament, where they won the consolation championship. Baker averaged 21.8 points, 11.1 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 2.2 blocks and 1.6 steals per game and compiled 17 double-doubles.
“The character and the ability of someone like Katie is something you see once in a lifetime,” said Lake City Head Coach Royce Johnston. “It’ll be years before we see anyone like her again. She’s hard-working and encouraging and she’s a leader on and off the court.”
Baker, who was also named 5A All-Idaho Player of the Year in 2007 after she led Lake City to a state championship, has signed a national letter of intent with the University of Montana.
