Charter school notification bills headed to full House
The Idaho House Education Committee on Tuesday quickly approved and sent two charter school notification bills on to the full House for consideration.
The first bill, HB212, requires that regular schools receive written notice on public hearings when charter schools petition to open or increase enrollment by more than 10 percent.
The committee approved the bill with no questions or debate.
The second bill, SB1121, was sponsored by Sen. John Goedde, R-Coeur d’Alene.
“After the last bill, this should be a piece of cake as well,” Goedde quipped.
The bill requires the charter commission to notify local districts when groups petition to form virtual charters schools that impact five or fewer districts.
“This is in direct response to a situation in my district,” Goedde saide.

Ridiculous
Just another example of public schools trying their darnest to stem competition. Do businesses have to notify their competitor when they expand? The competition from charter schools is the best thing to happen to public education.
They do if Johnny buys that much of the stock...
Oh please, it's a Charter School and Anybody with a plug nickel and a song can start one. Even you could be Grand Puba.

Charter schools are pubic schools
Idahorose:
Charters are funded with public money. They are a way to offer choice and for parents to play a more active role in their students education. I am not sure that the Charters are the best thing to ever happen to public schools. Sometimes they look like private schools run with public money. There are discriminatory hiring practices and boundaries drawn like jigsaw puzzles. But, I am still in favor of them. Not every kid fits into the round holes, the square pegs also need education methods that work for them. Schools need to teach to all students, not just the gifted, at-risk and priveleged ones.
Charter school problems never spoke of
The Idaho Leadership HS located in Pingree Idaho Opened, the fellow that opened it made him self the administrator and principal, gave himself a raise for both jobs, spent or took the start up money from the state and left for Florida. The school ran for a couple years, shut down leaveing a lot of unpaid rent from the school district. Ran the school leasted from the district into the ground and closed the doors. The students have been trying to fit back into the school system. As far as the boundaries went , there was none. they drew student from a 60 mile circle.
Yes charter schools have there place but as long as they are useing public school money, that would have gone to the districts the students came from there should be very strict rules on how it is spent.
Public schools are built with public money for everybody.
