Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden told lawmakers on Wednesday that suing the federal government over the wolves issue is futile.
His response came after Sen. Jeff Siddoway, R-Terreton, a rancher, asked Wasden whether he'd sue over wolves or just leave things in the "status quo."
"We are actually engaged in the process," Wasden said. "I’ve been working right now to have a meeting with the Secretary of the Interior on wolves. The opportunities for litigating the federal government might make us feel good, but they do little more than waste taxpayer dollars."
Wasden's comments came while he was giving a budget presentation to the Joint Finance-Appropriations Committee.

Aren't there some lawyers out there looking for publicity?
Thank you Idaho Attorney General Lawrence Wasden
This action is long over due. Wolves have been seen regularly prowling the hills. Now with calving and lambing going on they are taking a lot of livestock.
So severe is this NEW attack that F&G is finally flying and shooting at them.
HELP!!! THEY HAVE ALREADY KILLED A LOT OF ELK AND DEER.
Idaho can manage their own state. The feds know nothing of our situation!
Rancher - You can sue the Federal Government if you don't like
its policy on wolves. Why should the state of Idaho involve itself and subsidize your legal bills. If you are being injured call your own attorney.
Them elk and deer needed to die. Don't be a hog.
You have no idea what the hell wild animals do apparently.

Ranchers - they do not need any free legal services -
Why would some lawyer want to waste his/her personal time? The AG already said this litigation would waste taxpayer's dollars. Why would any lawyer do Pro Bono work for free to help a bunch of ranchers who are capable of suing the federal government on their own?
missing the point
It is not just ranchers that are being affected by wolves, also include anyone depending on wildlife for part of their living. Wolf country has seen outfitters go out of business, motels close down, cafes and stores shuttered. Many lawyers are sportsmen and have seen for themselves the negative impact that wolves have had on their enjoyment of public lands who's services would be helpful. And like it or not, sportsmen have the same right to enjoyment of public land as wolf lovers
Out of sight out of mind.
It does sound desperate and without much chance of being productive.
If it does not effect you directly why would you worry about wolves. You don't!
YET WE ABSOLUTELY MUST DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE DAMN WOLVES!
Why is it a bad idea for
Why is it a bad idea for sportsmen and ranchers to suggest a lawsuit after 13 years of broken promises? What other options do we have? Even if the BO administration accepts the latest delisting proposal the enviros have promised to SUE anyways. We really don't have any other choice unless you call giving eco-wackos everything they ever dreamed of a choice. Wolves have far exceeded recovery goals so the real problem here is enviros and their inability to compromise at any level.
Do what we need to do
We need to manage the wolves.
What the feds don't know wont hurt them in this matter, in turn it could help Idaho.
Lets start thinning them out
Quit whinning
I keep hearing about how wolves have ruined all these businesses but I would like to see one example of something that went out of business because of wolves. Lets see outfitters and guides are losing more business because of the economy than wolves. Some people pay to see wolves so there is more business. Small town stores, again unless the wolf burned it down I don't think they have any effect. Killing all the elk, last year I averaged seeing 50+ elk a day and 100+ deer during rifle and archery season. I shot 2 deer and an antelope and passed shots on cow elk because I didn't need the meat. All of my hunting was within pack territories and I even saw a wolf. I spent 20 days in the field hunting. The only time predators really effect prey is when the prey is struggling already. An example elk in Lolo. Humans stopped all the fires that created habitat and put roads in everywhere so the elk have less forage, shelter and areas without people on atv's and trucks chasing them. If you are a real sportsman/hunter you don't need to blame your lack of hunting ability on the wolf. Face the facts your inibility is to blame not the wolf.

Not whinning, just stating fact! Wolves are damaging the entire ag insdustry along with the states hunting revenue. Not to mention local hunter success.
Only a uninformed write such dumb stuff. as the aricle of "quit whinning!"
If it does not effect you personally, then critisize those it does effect. Written like a true liberal! You should look up "liberal" in your dictionary.
As I said, THIS IS LIFE. They are NOT COWS.

How about we believe this scientist?
"In the western U.S., you really need to be at 87 percent survival or better to have any chance of population stability or growth," said state wildlife biologist George Pauley at Kamiah. "When you are down in the 70s or low 80s, that is not good. We are not going to maintain a population. It will decline under those conditions."
He and others have established that wolf predation is the chief cause of death among radio-collared elk in the Lolo zone.
"Of the known causes of death, 75 percent are wolves," Pauley said. "Wolves appear to be driving low cow survival."
Hey Rancher
What I don't get is why don't you take care of your own problems. You bad mouth liberals, but it looks to me like you want taxpayer money to pay your legal bills. The taxpayers attorney already said it is a waste of taxpayers money to sue. So, if you still believe you are right - go hire your own attorney and stop whining. Incredible as it may sound, this issue is just not that important to most of us to expend taxpayer money in a time of tight budgets.

Put down the pip Frank. You are hallucinating again. Back away from your pc. Have a child turn it off. Do not drive a motor vehicle and we will send for help. Don't excite yourself, you are just having one of your spells again. Everything will be all right.
The big bad rancher won't say anything to hurt you. Remember, you are special. So don’t go picking fights. Remember your condition.
Why are you posting like Warheit used to?

Listen to them howl
Idaho has plenty of wolves, more than plenty when they are living near families in subdivisions and howling day and night. The scientists knew before the wolves were brought here that they would not stay in the mountains. In Spain the wolves are like coyotes, they come down into the towns at night and scavenge for garbage. Of course the folks living in cities here don't know this, but its coming to a residential area near you soon.
PS - ask the businesses up here how wolves have impacted their income. We haven't seen anyone come up here and spend money to "watch wolves".
This is how Idaho "manages" its wolves!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Why don't you come walk a mile in my moccasins?
Wolves killed an elk just down the street from our home a couple of days ago. We hear them howling just about every day this winter. We sure hope they don't run out of elk to kill, as we are rather fond of our horses.
Why don't you bring the wife and kids and come camping? I'm sure you will be just fine. Not like the family who's animals were killed last year camping near here.
These wolves are becoming habituated, and are not afraid of people.
Wolves cost Idaho $24 million
The Lewiston Tribune has had the article on its website for a couple of days. The article originated with IF&G. The Statesman has ignored it!
Are you sure? I'd go look again!

get the TRUE story
It is interesting to read the comments. It is easy to tell which are pro-wolfers claiming to be hunters. I am a hunter who spends a lot of time in the woods. The ONLY place you are going to get the true story about the wolves vs. elk is at www.saveelk.com.
Truth? If it's not at WALMART, IS is true?
