Boise State wide receiver Jeremy Childs has decided to give up his senior season to enter the NFL Draft, while cornerback Kyle Wilson has decided to return for his senior year.
Coach Chris Petersen announced Childs' decision Tuesday. Childs, a two-time All-WAC first-teamer, had 168 catches for 1,999 yards and 17 touchdowns in his career. He is second all-time in career receptions and likely would have broken the record if he had returned. Childs also set a school record with 82 receptions in 2007. He had 72 catches last year.
His departure means that only one wide receiver with more than 10 catches last season returns. That's junior Austin Pettis, who had 49 catches and nine TDs last year. The Broncos also have junior Titus Young, who was suspended for much of last season but was a standout in 2007.
Childs is the third Bronco in two years to leave early for the NFL, joining left tackle Ryan Clady (first round in 2008) and cornerback Orlando Scandrick (fifth round in 2008).
Meanwhile, Wilson, an All-WAC cornerback and All-American punt returner, will return, according to his brothers.
Wilson can earn his degree by returning — following the footsteps of brothers Gerry (Princeton) and Vincent (Iowa and Delaware), who also played college football and earned their degrees.
“I wouldn’t necessarily say it was a tough call, but I wouldn’t say it was easy,” said Gerry Wilson, the oldest of three Wilson boys. “… It was a matter of evaluating what’s best for Kyle and what’s best for the team.”
Wilson was told by the NFL Draft advisory committee that he would be selected sometime after the third round, Gerry said.
Wilson led the WAC in passes defended (15) and tied for the lead in interceptions (five) in 2008. He was second in the WAC and 12th in the nation in punt-return average (14.2), and he tied for the national lead with three touchdowns.
Wilson was named an All-WAC first-teamer as a cornerback and second-teamer as a returner. He was named a second-team All-American as a returner by SI.com and the Sporting News.

I wrote this comment at like 10am when it only said that Kyle Wilson was staying. It had not said anything about Jeremy Childs yet, that is why this article was considered "Breaking News." Please read comments very closely so that it doesn't look like you are saying that I can't read.

The time at the top of the article is still 10AM. You have to pay attention to the time on the headline on the front page to notice that the article was updated shortly after 4PM.

Actually, that is one of the perks of being a standout at BSU. If for some reason he does get hurt and can't go to the NFL, he will likely be able to get a nice job with a Boise area business and/or BSU supporter. Either way, he doesn't have a lot to worry about. At least job wise and financially.

Thanks Kyle for giving us all one more year to enjoy your play. You are a great athlete, and of course you know that. However, one more year to get even better will benefit you all the more in the draft. Play hard stay safe and try to develop your worth to maybe a second round pick. But most of all stay safe.

Not such a smart move for Jeremy. After the draft, maybe a couple three years in the pros on a taxi squad. Then what, you are through, you have no degree and the three years you did put in are a waste. In the real world, that degree Kyle is staying for is going to give him a better future than a short stint in the pros. Great move Kyle!
Don't do it Jeremy
My advice, not that you asked for it, has nothing to do with the Bronco team for next season. Stay in school; graduate, get your degree. In fact, don't play football or transfer to another school. But don't quit. Frankly, coach, I thought you would have more impact on Jeremy.

Good luck Childs. I really feel you needed another season at Boise State to up your draft stock but you know more than I do, and I think I am calling my Undefeated Season next year off because of it!

Thanks for the great years but from where I stand the fans are loyal and wonderful in Boise the School uh, well I will leave it all alone and wish everyone the very best......he will do fine in life it is just too bad that there was more motivation to leave than stay and that lies within the story that will never be told. Boise is an awesome school with an awesome program that offered him a great opportunity to play football but don't forget he chose Boise, he had lots of other choices and I think at times he should of chose different. There will always be haters! There will always be people that think he won't succed. Peace to all of those. Why can't people just wish someone well and the best in there life without forecasting the outcome. Thank you, robsmom! If the fans only knew what goes on, they would know why players leave. I know...the school gives them an education. PLEASE.....they EARN every single thing that they get. And the powers that be make sure that what they get is sod-all little, believe me. Some players should have left last year but thought more of their education than the NFL at the time. Jeremy will be fine. Remember all the haters that said that Orlando Scandrick wouldn't even get in the NFL? WRONG!!!, he's starting and thriving. Keep all negative comments to yourselves (you who can criticize but can't make your own dreams come true). Hopefully, BSU will continue to move forward. And, with one less great receiver, maybe Peterson will figure it out. You need a run game to set up the pass. Without it, you can win the WEAK--I mean WAC but--well...just watch re-runs of the past 2 bowl games. Godspeed, Jeremy! Your dream awaits.

Until the Oregon game. Childs leaving, that sucks, he was pretty good and BSU is going to need every weapon against the Ducks especially after we knock your QB Moore out with a late hit to the head in the first quarter of the game. Payback sucks especially when it's on your home, high school capacity, smurf turf.

I thought the officiating crew for that game sucked! A continuation of play on the QB and a pass breakup do not warrant you labeling our players with cheap shot. Cheap shot is what you get when you buy bargain brand shot for shotgun reloading at your local gun store, that which is used for hunting upland game birds and waterfoul, i.e. ducks!

Oregon is going to absolutley expose BSU. There is no doubt about it. Especially after BSU's exploits during last years game. I was there, I know. It was really was no surprise to see the other cheap shot artist get tossed out of the game. I dont put anything past Bronco Nation anymore. You would think that after watching teams like Michigan, Oklahoma, USC, and California come into Autzen that Eugene would have seen that type of play before?! Right? I guess not. Leave it to a WAC team searching for its second biggest win EVER to pull something like that. And yes, the game does look like a fluke after BSU coasts through a super competitive remaining schedule only to get outplayed by TCU. <--?

Boise used to get a really bad rap from the national media, mostly from people who had not even spent a night in the town. Not so anymore as they all talk well of Boise now.
