Kellen Moore named to FWAA Freshman All-American team

Boise State freshman quarterback Kellen Moore was named to the Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) Freshman All-America team on Thursday.

It's just the latest honor for Moore, who was the WAC Freshman of the Year after helping to lead the Broncos to a 12-1 season. Moore, the first freshman to start a season opener for Boise State, threw for 3,486 yards and 25 touchdowns. He completed 69.4 percent of his passes.

Here is the complete team.

• Full disclosure: I was a member of the 11-person committee that voted on the team. I can also tell you that Boise State center Thomas Byrd, safety George Iloka and defensive tackle Billy Winn were also considered for the team.

Baseball teams often talk about being good up the middle (catcher, second base, shortstop and center field), but it is vitally important in football, too. And the Broncos should be strong up the middle (quarterback, center, defensive tackle, safety) for years to come.

That's a pretty good freshmen crop — and that's without including running back Doug Martin, tight end Kyle Efaw, defensive ends Byron Hout, Shea McClellin and Jarrell Root or offensive linemen Cory Yriarte and Nate Potter, all of whom played key roles.

In addition, defensive tackles Chase Baker and J.P. Nisby, safety Cedric Febis, offensive lineman Garrett Pendergast, fullback Dan Paul, linebacker Aaron Tevis, defensive back Jamar Taylor and wide receiver Tyler Shoemaker all saw important game action during the 2008 season.

Seeing that list of freshmen must make Bronco fans feel good.

Congrats Kellen!

So does the All-American team actually play a game together?

Congratulations Mr. Moore!

Great to hear that Kellen made All-American! He certainly deserved the honor.

No Lilly, All-American teams do not play a game together. However, players named to all-star teams, like Ian for the Shrine game, do play against each other. The exception is the NFL as most of the players in the NFL were college All-Americans.

Well

Well that's kinda lame. ;-)

Yeah, considering the HS game the ARMY does was on...

the other day and they all declare colleges during the breaks.
