Kitzhaber likely off list for Interior secretary
Submitted by Rocky Barker on Wed, 12/03/2008 - 10:18am.
Former Oregon Gov. John Kitzhaber has said he won’t leave Oregon for Washington so that likely takes him out of the running for the Interior secretary job.
Kitzhaber said he wants to raise his 11-year-old son in Oregon leaving little chance that President-elect Barack Obama will pick him for the post that controls land, wildlife, water, oil gas and minerals in the West. Obama is expected to fill the post this week.
Kitzhaber’s exit places Democratic Rep. Raul Grijalva, the son of a migrant worker from Arizona, as the favorite for the job. That’s who Kitzhaber thinks will get the post, The Associated Press reported.
Obama also may name his Energy secretary this week. Here is a link to his official energy and environment plan.

Good. Never was fond of the "good Doctor".

Too bad,
because ex-Gov Kitzhaber would have made an excellent Secretary of the Interior. Few people with his experience in government have a better understanding of the needs of the West - its cultural and economic dependency on public lands, resources, fish, wildlife, ranching, and special places - not to mention his appreciation for the nation's growing need for recreation and refuge from all the other places in the country that have been spoiled.
Then again, his decision to raise his 11 year-old son in Oregon is consistent with these values, so often demonstrated in his political leadership.
Needless to say, I'm a fan of his, and regret that he will not be available to serve the new Administration.
I, his formerly Governed subject and OR Medicaid client, laugh.

the good Governor won re-election in 1998 by a 34% margin...
so, f.o., I must assume that your opinion of his leadership is not widely shared in your home state.
Been out of office a long time, aint he? NEXT.

Enough about this nonsense anyway.
