A reporter who covers Mississippi State contacted Boise State coach Chris Petersen on Monday after Petersen's name surfaced in connection with that job.
Petersen is friends with Mississippi State athletic director Greg Byrne, who worked at Oregon when Petersen was there.
"Greg and I have been friends for a long time. We talk often. He knows how happy we are at Boise and that's where we're going to be," Petersen told The Clarion-Ledger.

They refuse to fly over here and bail our butts out anymore though.
take some of Bleymaier's money
and give it to Coach Pete and staff! Can you believe they want to give him over $20k as a bonus if BSU gets a BCS game next year? Absolutely disgusting. I know people will argue with me on this, but I find it annoying we have to shovel additional money to someone so he will do what he was hired to do in the first place, when he's already making a mint! I hope he thanks his lucky stars every day that he even has that job. I used to think "lay off Bleymaier" when people would hack on the job he's doing with scheduling. Man, I'm steering that boat now!
Its the norm
Performance bonus are given at all sorts of companies. However, the money should be going to the coaches, and not to Gene. The reason the program from top to bottom is so successful is due to lack of greed. From the university president to the AD to the coaches and onto the players" LACK Of GREED AND SELFISHNESS. Vandies, you taking notes?
Yeah...but
Bleymeier scheduled us to play UC Davis next year. That's a solid game!
UC Davis
That does suck! But its out of respect because most the coaches have roots there.
Get out of the WAC indeed
Why not the Pac-10? What's BSU road record there? 1-12? Sounds like a good idea to me.
No weight...
It's Mississippi State! That's suicide! That's like coaching at Vandy or Baylor, you coach to lose every single year. I'm not worried about Coach Pete entertaining that job (Miss. State). When Weis gets fired form the Golden Domers I will start worrying, a little. However, I don't think Coach Pete will leave anytime soon.
On a seperate note, I heard on ESPN that Pat Hill is in talks with U-Dub. Good for him!
Coach Pete
Of course he is going to stay. This talk about moving on to
"better", more "high profile" coaching jobs no longer applies. When Nutt, Hawkins, etc. were coaching at BSU it was not yet seen as a "big time" program and a "high profile" job and the money was nowhere near the jobs they left BSU to take. Now, however, BSU is seen as a big time program and a "high profile" position and the money is definitely more than coaches in the past were able to make. Coach Pete will stay in Boise as long as they keep winning and as long as Boise will have him. It will cost a lot of money to keep him, but BSU will pay the money and he will stay. It's a much easier road to bowl games and BCS bowls and much better job security. Oh yeah, did I mention the money.
Hell must have frozen over
Tomellen...is the holiday spirit making you soft?
A little over stated
Boise State is not yet a top tier program, but it is definitely a top tier coaching position now. I believe Coach Pete reportedly hauled in about $1.2 mills last year, which isn't anywhere near the top of the charts, but is a good salary that is growing every year and in a great area. Anyone who thinks coach Pete should leave for any old BCS school is smoking drugs. He would be making a mistake going to any program other than say, USC,Texas, OU, Florida, Alabama, FSU, Miami, Ohio State, or Michigan. Pretty much dumb to go anywhere except programs that are already traditional powerhouses.
need some clarity
Your comment makes has me confused. Can I get an explanation?
Boise State is NOT a top tier program, but it IS a top tier coaching position. Huh?
I'm really confused on this one
Get bottled water then.

The tap is broken and I've got no cash
What if we pay for their ticket and put them up in a 5-Star resort?
Explanation...
Allow me to explain the apparent paradox why Boise State not yet a TOP tier program, but yet a top tier coaching position with all things taken into consideration IMO.
Reasons we are not yet a top tier program: Stadium size, athletic budget, conference, facilities, size of fanbase (Bronco Nation is growing). Not bad by any means just not top tier. The school is making improvements to facilities/stadium which is one of my arguments below.
Reasons for being a top tier coaching position. Best recruiting classes in conference, good salary combined with cost of living. Good place to raise falmily. Good amount of national exposure for size of program. School is willing to make, and has been making improvements to facilities, and stadium.
Just because a program is bigger, or pays more, does not necessarily make it a top tier or even a more desirable coaching position. Would anyone really leave Boise State for MSU? Leaving BSU for Arkansas, ASU, and Colorado did not turn out so well for those DBs no one cares left. Coach Pete hopefully has learned from the mistakes of his predecessors made of moving on to "better coaching opportunities."
I hope that clears things up for everybody.
your kidding right
Since when has BSU become a big time program. Since going 11-0 and going to the Poinsetta Bowl, right.
On our way
and not slowing down even to the doubters like you. Yep. Big time. Boise has a formula and it doesn't matter if it's U I or Oregon. Study your opponent, fine there weakness, develop a plan and execute the plan. Hey it worked on Oklahoma 2 years ago, weren't they big time? These boys work as a team and are not out for individual glory. It's amazing to watch on screen and in person when I get lucky to be at a game.
and it's a place worth raising your kids
who on earth would trade the Boise area for a lot of those towns other colleges are located in. Coach Pete is too smart for that. I really think he understands the added value of where he is living now and how far his paycheck is going here.
Props 4 peeps preferred proudly

More good news from Oregon
No doubt Coach wouldn't bolt for Miss. St.; but how about Oregon (most likely choice). Looks like that fear will subside now that they named Belotti's successor. This is GREAT NEWS!!!!
Mississippi State
Nowadays, these coaches have learned "coachspeak." Note that Petersen says that he "intends" to be at Boise State...that may or may not be the end of it.
