ESPN2 picks up Boise State-Nevada

The Boise State-Nevada football game Saturday will air nationally on ESPN2, an ESPN spokesman said Thursday.
ESPN2 will air the KTVB broadcast of the game — with KTVB commentators calling the action. The game apparently will air on KTVB (Channel 7) and ESPN2 in the Boise market.
The game kicks off at 2:07 p.m. MST in Reno, Nev.

This is great news!! Watching football on channel 7 is like watching a public access show in a third world country. If I have to listen to that pip squeak Augusto again I am going to "David Agoff my self"!!

With Mark Johnson and the proverbial Tom Scott looking like morons and David Augusto doing his thing, Bronco Nation can rest assured their calling duties in the future will be limited.
It not like these guys are bad dudes. They do a lot in the community by and large. However they dont know how to call a football game professionally. Trust me, they will be scorned after their performance this week on ESPN2.
Not knowing penalties, players and the flow of the game isnt good enough. Local amateurs...um... isnt good enough! And to all those media guys at the Statesman and on radio: Quit protecting them and telling us they are good when they are not.
And memo to Mark Johnson: Just because ESPN has decided to pick up your 7Sports broadcast doesnt mean they want you because your good. Your terrible! The Broncos are the ones who are good. And ESPN didnt want to send out countless camera and media on late notice to cover the game in Reno.

Not only are we now a joke for our communication degree football players, but the nation will hear are ridiculous attempt at a sports commentator! Nothing like hearing incorrect facts and statements...I would rather turn on 580 and mute the Tv audio if it was not ahead of the broadcast!

How will we find out about the color of the players pants and how hard the stains are to get out of them with out Augusto's in depth investigate reporting from the sideline?

This broadcast team will be a total embarassment to Boise and BSU. The only thing that will help ease the pain will be the final score. I'm saying BSU 38, Nevada 17. Sloper.

Boise is something like the 85th largest market in the country. ESPN obviously thinks they are at least competent or they wouldn't put them on the air. Be happy that a larger audience will see the game. If the Broncs play really well, it will help their BCS cause.

Great so now the rest of the country can join in our misery with such classic lines as "three trips to the left", "loss of down penalty" (it was declined), and the infamous "That reminds me of when the Broncos won the fiesta bowl durka durka you remember that Mark?" oohh and the flawless camera work too!

Why do people continually believe that airing a game on ESPN2 will have any impact on national rankings?
Boise is the 112th market...
... out of 210. The whole TV market is 0.229% of the national market. That is, however, a major improvement since 2000, when it was the 123rd out of 210. The gain of 11 ranking spots is the 9th best gain in the country over that time.

I won't be telling my family around the country that are BSU fans anything about this being nationally televised. I would be to humiliated by the local broadcast team and don't want to hear about it from them. Common KTVB, get some real talent. I am sure that even a couple of the announcers from the local high school games could do better.

Im going to be in Reno! but man this is embarrasing. Come on people how can anyone think this is a good deal! The game on ESPN is great but I can't wait to read the national boards afterward. That being said Our boys are homers .......errr. I read this on another post, perhaps we can get KTVB to bring in PJ just for this game. At least the guy has got some years of experience behind him. I'm calling it right now. Augusto is going to be ringing the little bell up to the press box every 15 seconds so he can get on Nation TV. MJ and TS are going to be telling Augusto during time outs to stop beebing them.

The KTVB crew. True, they are not great announcers, but Boise is a tiny market media wise. Why does everyone on here think that Boise "deserves" to have Brent Musberger doing our local games. Its absurd. Boise is a small city, we simply are not going to get national tv quality people here. Even if we did, it would be very short lived. Talent moves on guys-simple as that. Just be happy the game is being seen by a large audience. What most people care about nationally is a great game, not the announcing crew.

he's right. everyone is really overdoing the hate talk about channel 7 and their announcing skills. I find it odd that you people are the same ones that are basically polite in the store and on the road. Amazing what this site does to some people!
YEs they need more experience, but also realize that MJ is not a full time sports guy. And like stated above, we're a dinky town compared to the places where good announcers hail. Hopefully the Broncos will just light up that stadium with such excellently played ball that no one will notice the announcers. GO BRONCOS!!!
PS: I read where someone in Reno was complimenting BSU fans! They said the 'Pack fans could learn a lot from us -how we support our team through thick and thin. Let's keep up that good work!
One other thing...
Having the game on ESPN is a big deal to the kids out there on the field, even if a lot of you on here dont seem to care. Most of them have family outside the Boise area. it means that they get to see the game. Recruits also get to see the games when they are on ESPN. Its not just about the announcers fellas. Besides, how many of you on here are the very best there is in the industry you work in? If you're not, you should be canned immediately and replaced by someone with talent.
Johnson and Scott have been engaged members of the Treasure Valley for many years. I've met them both and They are great people. Lets cut them a little slack.

It is also welcomed by those of us Bronco supporters that do not live in the Treasure Valley and would otherwise be forced to sit with the computer and watch the game on a 2x2 inch screen complements of Bronco Vision.

I'll take every opportunity I get to watch BSU play on ESPN. Even the network announcers aren't perfect. Listening to Mussberger do a football game is almost painful at times.

The cameras that KTVB uses are not high def cameras, however, ESPN will run KTVB's signal through a converter that makes it broadcastable in HD. The picture quality will look pretty good but it wont be true HD. Sorry.

Are you serious? Your posts lack any real knowledge. Beating Nevada soundly will do nothing for our BCS chances. Like I said earlier, I know Mark Johnson and Tommy Scott are good people. That doesnt make them good announcers. Heres a cookie for having met local media guys. Another thing, Boise isnt small anymore. We have a football program in the Top 25 often. How the game is covered is a window to the outside unbiased viewer. Now crawl out of your hole and embrace progression.

Media markets are determined by television and radio revenues as well as population in a viewing area. Sorry Jlandon but BSU's burgeoning football program doesnt change statistics. Boise is barely a dot on the map for people in the broadcast industry. Saying Boise is small and insignificant to the media types is not being disloyal or unwilling to embrambrace progression, its just being realistic. This should be a crime. There is no way Augusto & friends will be able to broadcast an unbiased version of this game. At least you guys don't have Paul J. anymore- he would have forced ESPN to take the game off the air!
On the flip side, it will be entertaining to see Augusto & friends call a WAC game on national TV where the Donks' end up losing.
