Broncos batter QBs

The Boise State football team’s defense has taken much more than a statistical toll on opposing quarterbacks this year. The Broncos, who rank second in the nation in pass-efficiency defense, have battered their opponents — knocking some out of the game and helping push others out of the starting lineup.

Here’s a rundown:

Idaho State: Russel Hill passed for 74 yards and landed on YouTube thanks to a brutal hit by safety Jeron Johnson.

Bowling Green: Three players who lined up at quarterback were knocked out of the game at least temporarily. Wide receiver Anthony Turner didn’t return and missed the next game.

Oregon: Starter Jeremiah Masoli was knocked out of the game with a concussion. Run specialist Chris Harper was 0-for-3 with two interceptions — and a couple weeks later was moved to wide receiver. However, freshman Darron Thomas looked good with three fourth-quarter touchdown passes.

Louisiana Tech: Starter Taylor Bennett was 9-of-27 with two sacks. One game later, he lost his starting job.

Southern Miss: Austin Davis was 15-of-34 passing with three sacks and an interception — his worst game of the year.

Hawaii: Inoke Funaki was intercepted five times and sacked five times. One game later, he lost his starting job.

San Jose State: Kyle Reed passed for 105 yards and the Spartans produced just seven first downs that weren’t by penalty. He bruised his tailbone, missed last week’s game at Idaho and is expected to miss this week’s game.

New Mexico State: Chase Holbrook passed for 64 yards and was sacked three times. He left the game with an injury in the third quarter.

The totals:

Knocked out of the game: 3

Lost their starting jobs: 2

Did not play the next week: 2

Moved to a different position: 1

Those numbers concern Utah State coach Brent Guy, whose new quarterback leads the Aggies in passing and rushing. Sophomore Diondre Borel (6-foot, 185 pounds) has averaged 296.3 total yards in the last three games — his first three as the full-time quarterback.

“For his size, he has shown a lot of toughness,” Guy said. “… He makes everybody around him better.”

here come the duckies...

call the waaaaambulance.....

Alright...

I guess I'll just ask what Kellen Moore will do when he takes a hard helmet-to-helmet shot? Will mighty Bronco Nation call the waaaaaambulance?

Oh wait.....BSU plays in the WAC. Nothin but cupcakes and pushovers. Sorry.

Poor teams...

that forget to guard their QB from defensive players lose their QB. Glad Kellen has an O-Line that knows that. Also Kellen's smart enough to know how to take a hit. Kellen won't be knocked out he's not dumb enough to lead with his head.

Sounds

alot like the Pac-10 to me!

Wierd....

Utah State's QB leads the Aggies in passing?
Must run some new fangled type of O.

Guy not impressed with Moore

Apparently Brent Guy isn't too impressed with Kellen Moore.
Not only will BSU crush another quarterbacks confidence, but Kellen Moore will also crush Brent Guys confidence for have doubting him.

Dear Kellen...

...sorry I said I was not impressed with you.

Can you write me a letter of recommendation? I'm going to be finding myself on unemployment here real soon, and I need letters from people in the field.

Yours, Brent Guy

At least they don't deep fry them to a golden brown--eww.

If this had been an actual troll post the attention seeking you just read would've been followed by screaming, name-calling and cutting and pasting for no apparent reason. We now return you to the Idaho Statesman already in progress.

BRENT

Guy isn't impressed with Kellen Moore? What a surprise! He's probably judging him by the fact that he's probably the best freshman QB in the country, has mental toughness, and ability to make plays. Yeah he wouldn't fit into BG's impressive team at all. I'm feeling a bit of jealousy!

Dubious at best

I'm proud of the Broncos for playing physical football and playing every down to the whistle, but I'm not sure I like that the Bronco faithful are boasting about how many injuries they cause. Football is a physical sport but there's something to be said for leaving everything on the field. Don't be proud if the Broncos put some 19 year old kid who will probably grow up to be a realtor or accountant through a debilitating injury.

BONWELL

Don't misunderstand a whining fan getting some smack with fans wanting someone to get hurt! That being said I played 2 years of football in HS, I saw broken arms, legs, concussions, bruises, sprains, cuts, crying, someone who was knocked out.... its a violent sport and I'm confident all the players know that going in. We love to see the hits and guys getting smashed, but in the end most of us are the ones that wait in silence as a player is down on the field hoping he's not really hurt bad.
