Dominant defenses to meet Friday night
Some interesting numbers while looking over the WAC stats:
• Boise State has allowed nine touchdowns all season, No. 1 in the WAC and two fewer than San Jose State, this week's opponent.
• Idaho has allowed 48 touchdowns, 17 more than any other team in the WAC.
• Boise State ranks second nationally in scoring defense, allowing 10.5 points per game. San Jose State is second in the WAC and 16th nationally, allowing 16.6 points per game.
• San Jose State ranks 13th nationally in total defense. Boise State is 32nd nationally. The pair is 1-2 in the WAC in that category.
• San Jose State leads the WAC in sacks with 25. Boise State is tied for second with 20.
• Boise State has stopped opponents on 11 of their 16 fourth-down attempts, the best mark in the WAC.
Friday night's game in San Jose could be a defensive struggle. In fact, it should be a turnover and field position game.
• From the stats can lie department: New Mexico State ranks second in the nation in pass defense, allowing 137.5 yards per game in the air. Nevada ranks fifth in the nation in run defense, allowing 73.4 yards per game.
The reason for these great numbers? Well, opponents can run all over New Mexico State, which ranks 113th nationally and is allowing 225.8 yards per game on the ground. And foes can pass all over Nevada, which ranks 119th nationally (that's dead last) allowing 333.0 yards per game in the air.
• Pizza winners
Last week's winners of a $20 gift certificate from Domino's Pizza for the Name the Score contest:
hillarymtn, who picked a 27-3 Boise State victory.
and mohawk98, who predicted a 31-9 Bronco win.
The final score of the Boise State-Hawaii game was 27-7.
Congrats and thanks to everyone for playing. We'll be having another contest this week, so check Thursday's blog for details.

BSU Favored?
BSU favored by only 7 to 8 points. How can this be? A 13th rated team playing a non-rated team in the WAC and only favored by a few points. Abandoned the run and PASS,PASS,PASS!!!; the defense will take care of the rest. This game won't be close.
If
I ever learned anything its that those boys in Vegas seem to get most of these things right! I would not mind a blow out at all would let me relax by halftime.
Ranking doesn't really matter in the end
Any team can win if given the right circumstances. Besides, where is the fun in a blowout? Keep it close and make it last minute. The game is much more enjoyable that way.
SCREW
that! blow'em out and be done with it. My point wasn't about rankings just the odds. For some reason Vegas knows how to play those.
They sleep
with Satan in their sheets down there in Sin City.
I'm for the blow out
Yeah, give me the good old fashioned blow out anytime over a nail biter. SJSU always seems to play the Broncos tough and that makes for too tight of a game for me. Go Broncos!
Bow out = style points
for non-BCS. Put it in the air, step on accelerator and don't stop till you are up 50 or more points. Give the pollsters something to think about Sunday morning.
