Log blocks Boise River near Eagle Island

The Boise River is a dynamite river to float in the fall because of all the colors, but don't get hung up on a log.

One paddler, Judi Steciak, reported Monday that those floating the Glenwood-to-Linder section should be aware of a downed tree blocking the entire south channel around Eagle Island, above the Eagle Road bridge. It's near the small weir marked on the river map in Ron Watter's guide to flatwater paddling.

She said the river bends to the right just below the tree.

Members of Idaho Mountain Recreation took a trip through this section on Sunday at the low 600 cfs flow. They made an easy landing on a small cobble island to scout and realized that there was no safe passage on the water past the tree.

"We ferried to river left and did a short portage," she said in an e-mail.

There is another tree across the river just upstream from Glenwood that was blocking the river. We haven't received any word whether it was removed.

Good paddling.
