It isn’t just the media who have noticed Boise State tailback Ian Johnson’s knack for big games on ESPN.
His teammates have noticed, too, going into Wednesday’s ESPN game against Louisiana Tech.
“A lot of the linemen, the funny guys on the team, say I do my best on nationally televised games,” Johnson said Saturday. “We’ll see if they’re right or not. We’ll see if I can go out and bust a 200-yard game and prove them right.”
Johnson has scored 23 of his 50 career touchdowns, recorded six of his 15 100-yard games and posted both of his 200-yard games in eight appearances as the Broncos’ featured back on ESPN or ESPN2.
He has scored at least two touchdowns in all but one of those games, a trend that started with his 240-yard, five-touchdown performance as a sophomore in 2006 against Oregon State.
Since then, he has added 205 rushing yards, 256 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns against Nevada in 2007, 191 all-purpose yards and three touchdowns against Southern Miss in 2007 and 192 rushing yards and four touchdowns against New Mexico State in 2006.
“I don’t like to say I only do it for ESPN, but it definitely seems to happen that way,” Johnson said.
Johnson has one other start on national TV — the Fiesta Bowl against Oklahoma. All he did that day was rush for 100 yards, score a touchdown, win the game with a two-point conversion and propose to his girlfriend.

Many readers have pointed out that we had the wrong color scheme for the Louisiana Tech game in Saturday’s paper.
Boise State sent out the wrong information to the media and posted the wrong information on its Web site. The corrected information then was mistakenly sent out to only a few media members.
The correct info will be in Sunday’s paper. It is: Fans in odd-numbered sections and the north end zone are asked to wear orange. Fans in even-numbered sections, the south end zone and the student section are asked to wear blue.

zone blocking schemes yet like in years past when Ian flourished. When they get the scheme down, he'll look a lot more impressive.

The O-line
I think the reason he hasn't had as much success as he did in 2006 is because he doesn't have a stellar O-line to create the holes for him. That O-line in 2006 was incredible. This year they are a little young and unexperienced. Great running backs are usually great because they have someone opening the holes for them.

It's easy
to win, when you only play one decient team a year. BSUniversity is scared to play anyone. I'm not a U of Idaho fan but at least they play decient teams each year. And don't give me this crap that good teams won't play them, good teams play Fresno State every year. Boise is a small town program that has only ever beat two good teams ever (Oklahoma and Oregon) and they talk as though they should be playing for the Nat Title, give me a break. Even ESPN and other coaches are starting to say what I and everyone I know has been saying, play a harder schedule and then you will get some respect. But, they won't because they are scared to lose.

Last couple times to Reeser baring some home cooking from the refs the Broncos walk out of there with a win and even in defeat we lost by less than ten combined points in those games... Oh and how did they do here??? I forgot you'll have to remind me of that one. Bronco fans have nothing to feel but pride for the gigantic steps this program has made in such a blip of time. The only thing that makes it sweeter is seeing douches like you and moron up their eat their words. So keep it up douches :) It makes the strides that much sweeter!

I hate to say it but I agree with you to a point. I think BSU is a little afraid to up their schedule. The AD and Coach Pete has the same mindset and that is that up to this point they've scheduled relatively easy and have had success. And honestly I think up until now that recipe has been ok only because it has worked.
From now on the voters may want to be more impressed with a non-BCS team before they crash the party. For example, if BYU and Boise State finish the year undefeated, guess who's getting picked? BYU, because they beat two BCS teams, Washington and UCLA.
I'm sure any Bronco fan is curious to see how they would do with a bit of a better schedule.
As far as Ian goes, I think he could be a great running back again with a shot in the NFL...if he hits the hole like I said. I don't understand why he doesn't run around the ends more often too. He's not a 4.3 runner but he is a 4.4 guy and that's good enough to get him around most linebackers.

Every week that I post on here, no one ever wants to debate the facts they just start calling names. Typical BSUniversity fans, the most uneducated fans in the nation. What you guys don't realize is that outside of Idaho, people don't give a rip about BSUniversity. By the way, BSUniversity will never get out of the WAC because the school is a joke with regards to academics. Even the MWC doesn't want them and they are nothing compared to the PAC 10.
