Many Idahoans have been inspired by the courage and generosity of Garrett Schram. Statesman Publisher Mi-Ai Parrish is auctioning her four seats to Boise State's next game (vs. Lousiana Tech on Wednesday, Oct. 1) to benefit Garrett's Fund, which will create a teen room at St. Luke's. The seats are in Section 107, Row H, around the 40-yard line.

I wish

i was gonna be home for the game, i would bid on these tickets in a heartbeat but i'm gonna be in Portland that day. Dangit

hope

louisiana wins! those folks deserve to win : )

Hope they lose...

why do they deserve to win??? :)

lol

Just another BSU hater.

Go BSU!!!!

.

.

Nahhhh....

If you're implying they deserve to win because the state of Louisiana has been hit by several hurricanes in the last few years, that's just silly (La Tech is in the Northern portion of the state).

However, I did travel to the La Tech/BSU game last year IN Louisiana (since I'm currently living in Florida-----another hurricane prone state). The La Tech fans were extremely nice and gracious. We sat in their section w/our BSU gear and homemade signs without any problem. They chatted w/us and were just generally nice people.

Good luck to both teams, although of course I'd like to see BSU win :)

Nobody...

"deserves" to "win", if you don't earn it you don't get it. Let them come in here and earn a win, which by the way they've never done and i don't see it happening next week. But if they come in here and "earn" a win then they "deserve" it.

just a guess

katrina?

It's on TV, no?

KIDO needs to pump up the

KIDO needs to pump up the power big time. Lake Hazel and Cloverdale and the signal fades at night. That is freaking retarded.

That part of town is a null zone and have you ever seen them?

There are four towers, two are reserve (the ones where a tower has a pole attached that once had the original KFXD-FM (1946-late 50s?) then KCIX-TV 6's antenna until 1960. Yes, there were two channel six licensees prior to KIVI and the first was the very SHORT-LIVED KFXD-TV (May-July 1953) predating KIDO-TV 7 by maybe 8 weeks.

Anyway, KIDO broadcasts from the former KFXD site and KFXD from the KIDO site near KBOI's towers outside Kuna I think. The build is painted brown two-tone and was actually the station offices prior to the Owyhee Plaza.

When the two licensees switched callsigns (NOT licenses), in much the same way KIYS and KIZN did to become 92.3 KIZN and 93.1 KZMG, KFXD received the emasculated pattern of KIDO (with KFI at 50,000 watts next door and a number of other 630 kHz stations in the west to deal with, including KONA in Tricities, WA). KIDO on the other hand got a fairly HEARTY signal with little skywave interference while on the air (I've heard CKY in Regina, Saskatchewan and there is a three-letter call in Sacramento, CA).

Still, many stations do not fare well in sections of Boise, which SEEMS odd but has a basis in physics, though I do not recall exactly the reason for. For an example, the San Andreas fault has natural magnetic qualities that make for a radio and TV "Black Hole" of sorts. I have experienced in person the drastic and awesome power of a severe electrical storm to COMPLETELY WIPE AM OUT.

5,000 watts is the limit at that frequency for the most part. Both KIDO and KFXD have changed frequencies a few times, KFXD by far more frequently and both were affected by the NARBA Treaty that created clear channels for Canada and Mexico as well as having established further standards and added frequencies by the 1941 implementation date. 580 and 630 were arrived at by the late 50s when KFXD moved to 580 and KIDO moved from 1380 to 630, allowing KSRV in Ontario to move from 1450 to 1380 and eventually setting in motion KYET/KACY/KIOV in 1967 at 1450.

In comparison, KFXD 630 uses about 2,500 watts in the daytime and about hald that directionally I believe at night. If ANY signal is crippled it is KFXD!

PS KBSU-AM 730 not only does the same thing, when they broadcast AM stereo and dropped to nighttime power and pattern you could lose the stereo pilot tone just outside Caldwell before Sand Hollow, it was nulled that sharply from the same three towers as KFXD (theu may have relocated). KCID 1490 also "gets lost" like that.

FCC regulations are changing but for the most part many frequencies are filled or overfilled on the AM band and now the FM band in many regions. You cannot just change power and pattern reqirements at will. That chaotic ANARCHY caused a great deal of pain and anger in the early days of radio and led to the replacement of the Federal Radio Commission with today's Federal Communications Commisssion in 1933.

Hops that helped.
