Nampa-Skyview gets late surge to earn Game of the Week nod
Wow, where did that come from?
Friday's matchup featuring Mountain View and Meridian was leading high school football Game of the Week voting most of the week, but Canyon County football fans mobilized late and provided the Nampa-Skyview matchup 62 percent of the votes in our online poll.
Kickoff is at 7 p.m. at Skyview.
Here's the final breakdown after voting closed at noon Thursday.
Nampa at Skyview: 62%
Mountain View at Meridian: 38%
Borah at Vallivue: 7%
Middleton at Mountain Home: 3%
That game will be featured in Friday's full-page high school football preview in the Statesman along with coverage in Saturday's paper.
TIMBERLINE-CAPITAL TONIGHT
I'll be at the Capital-Timberline game tonight at Bronco Stadium, so check this blog this evening for live updates from the game.
Both teams are 2-0, but Timberline hasn't beaten Capital since 2003.
BOB FIRMAN INVITATIONAL
Don't forget to head out to Eagle Island State Park on Saturday for the Bob Firman Invitational.
One hundred and four high school teams are registered for Saturday's meet, which begins at 8:50 a.m. with the collegiate men (full schedule below).
Among those scheduled to race in the boys elite division are Spokane, Washington's North Central — ranked No. 1 in Harrier magazine's preseason Super 25 — and Provo, Utah's Timpview — ranked No. 19.
Those two programs will be joined in the elite division by Idaho's best, including Boise, Highland and Mountain View, which are ranked eighth, ninth and 10th in Dyestat.com's Northwest rankings.
On the girls side, Super 25 preseason No. 16 Davis highlights the field. Bishop Kelly and Mountain View are ranked eighth and ninth in Dyestat.com's Northwest rankings.
