9:43 p.m. — Capital 48, Timberline 28: Timberline quarterback Tanner Mangum tossed his third touchdown to trim Capital's lead to 20 with 3:15 remaining in the game.
I've got to head down to the field for interviews. Thanks for reading.
9:28 p.m. — Capital 48, Timberline 21: Timberline QB Tanner Mangum connected with brother and wide receiver Madison Mangum for a 26-yard TD to put a little dent in Capital's lead.
9:20 p.m. — End of third quarter
Capital 48, Timberline 14: What was a halfway close game at halftime turned into a rout as Capital's defense and special teams took over.
Capital's first TD in the second half was a fumble recovery for a touchdown on a Timberline kickoff return, a 12-yard TD pass to receiver Paul Egwuonwu and a 62-yard interception return.
9:13 p.m. — Capital 48, Timberline 14: Capital defensive linemen Wyatt Johnson picked off Timberline QB Tanner Mangum and carried it 62 yards for a touchdown. It was Mangum's first interception this season.
9:10 p.m. — Capital 41, Timberline 14: OK, now its a rout. Capital added to its lead with a 84-yard drive capped by a 12-yard TD pass from QB Jeremy Powers to receiver Paul Egwuonwu with 3:47 remaining in the third.
8:45 p.m. — Capital 35, Timberline 14: On the second half kickoff, Timberline returner Tyler Knight was stripped at the 20 by linebacker Jake Powell, who picked it up at the 20 and ran it in for a touchdown to deflate the Wolves.
8:30 p.m. — Halftime
Capital 28, Timberline 14: Freshman Timberline quarterback Tanner Mangum entered Thursday with back-to-back 300-yard passing games, but it is Capital quarterback Jeremy Powers who's on pace tonight with 195 in the first half.
Mangum, who has stayed on his feet after absorbing some big hits, completed 11-of-22 first-half passes for 122 yards. Powers is 12-of-13 with 78 of the 195 yards coming off three shovel passes — two resulted in TDs.
While Powers is performing well, Capital wide receiver Geraldo Hiwat from the Netherlands stole the show in the first half with a 54-yard touchdown run to score the first TD. On top of that, he has six receptions for 78 yards.
Four different players have TDs for Capital — Hiwat, Powers, Shelby Lucius and Eric Niblett.
Timberline's two TDs were scored by running back Preston Minter on a 1-yard run and senior wide receiver Madison Mangum on an 18-yard pass from his little brother.
8:11 p.m. — Capital 28, Timberline 14: Capital chewed up 4 minutes, 53 seconds with a nine play, 65-yard touchdown drive to push its lead back to 14 points with 2:05 remaining in the first half. The Eagles scored on a 34-yard shovel pass from QB Jeremy Powers to receiver Eric Niblett.
8 p.m. — Capital 21, Timberline 14: With 6:57 remaining in the first half, freshman Timberline QB Tanner Mangum found his brother Madison Mangum for an 18-yard TD pass to cut Capital's lead in half.
7:50 p.m. — Capital 21, Timberline 7: Capital quarterback Jeremy Powers capped a 72-yard scoring drive with a 2-yard TD run. The big play on the drive was a 34-yard pass from Powers to wide receiver Geraldo Hiwat on the first play of the drive.
7:45 p.m. — End of first quarter
Capital 14, Timberline 7: Things finally calmed down after a frenetic start. Timberline punted to end the first quarter and Capital starts the second with the ball at its own 28.
7:21 p.m. — Capital 14, Timberline 7: After a holding play on the kickoff return gave Capital the ball at Timberline's 34, wide receiver Shelby Lucius caught a shovel pass from QB Jeremy Powers and ran it in for a another quick TD.
This could be a long night.
7:18 p.m. — Capital 7, Timberline 7: Timberline started its first drive at Capital's 48, then scored six plays later on a 1-yard run by Preston Minter. On the ensuing kickoff, Capital returner Geraldo Hiwat returned it for a TD, but it was called back on a holding penalty.
7:13 p.m. — Capital 7, Timberline 0: Capital started with the ball at the 35 and wasted no time getting in the end zone. Wide receiver Geraldo Hiwat took a handoff from quarterback Jeremy Powers and tip-toed along the sideline before blowing past Timberline's defenders for a 54-yard TD run.
This guy's very good.
6:50 p.m. — Can't make it out to Bronco Stadium? Stay tuned for live updates from Capital's showdown against Timberline.
Both teams are 2-0, but the Wolves have just one win against cross-town rival Capital since Timberline opened its doors in 1998.
