Cool temps make great biking weather
Submitted by Roger Phillips on Tue, 09/02/2008 - 11:04am.
I got reacqainted with my mountain bike over the weekend. It's been sitting in hibernation during the 90-degree heat. Now with cooler weather, the lure of the Foothills is too great. I hit a few trails over the weekend, and it felt great to ride again.
The Foothills aren't the only place that offer great riding. The mountains are awesome this time of year. The mornings are cold and the afternoons sunny and warm. Occasional rainstorms keep the dust down, and the most of the summertime traffic has cleared so the trails have fewer people on them.
Just a reminder to double check your bike. I had a slow leak in my rear shock that completely blew halfway through my ride, and I also had a shifter cable break. So I started my ride with a 27-speed, full-suspension bike and ended with a single-speed hard tail. Keep an eye on your maintenance and enjoy those fall trails. It's arguably the best time of year to ride.

That is why you aren't in hunting shape.
If your dog looks at you funny you KNOW you're in trouble.
Priorities
Let me get this right, recently you write about how you have all of your hunting gear tested and maintained along with having your gun all sighted in for the hunting season. Doesn't is seem rather assinine that you go out for a ride with bad cables and blown shock?
A bike will keep you in good health and of normal weight whereas your gun will just assist you in downing an animal for a weekend.
I think that you should learn how to maintain your bike and get in better shape rather than writing about hunting!
Wow, what anger
Guilty as charged on the poor bike maintenance, but I didn't leave with a blown shock and broken cable housing. For the record, I work on my own bike and usually keep it in pretty good shape, but sometimes things go haywire.
And I occasionally use my mountain bike for hunting and scouting, so hunting and mountain biking isn't an either/or proposition.
And on the bright side, I got a better workout pedaling a single speed with a blown shock.
Thanks for reading.

Wait until I send pictures of my cruisers later this fall...
Single speed is EXACTLY what you need to get into shape. When I can crest Hospital Hill here in Ontario without a break and fairly easily that was what I was shooting for.
Eastside
Spent 2 glorious hours on Labor Day riding the Eastside trail.
With the summer heat and working night shift I didn't get nearly enough ridding in over the summer. Having rotated back to days and with the cooler temps I plan on hitting the hills as much as possible.
