Idaho GOP chief 'ecstatic' over Palin pick

Idaho GOP chairman Norm Semanko says he is "ecstatic" over John McCain's vice presidential pick: Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin, an Idaho native and former classmate at the University of Idaho.

Semanko also says Palin's coattails will help other Republicans.

"Governor Palin is a young, smart, energetic and well-spoken, rock solid conservative -- and a Westerner with Idaho roots. What more can Idahoans ask for in a Vice Presidential candidate?" Semanko wrote today on the Idaho GOP's blog.

"And how discouraged must Idaho Democrats be? Obama passed up his Western options for VP and Delaware is a long way from Idaho. McCain's choice has ignited a new fire in Idaho Republicans that is sure to carry over to all of the other races on the November 4 ballot. That is bad news for Idaho Democrats."

Not so fast Norman

I wouldn't be so keen on labeling her an Idahoan. She's undergoing her own ethics inquiry by the Alaska legislature over the firing of her ex-brother-in-law as a state trooper. Moreover she's closely tied to indicted Ted Stevens who came out to support her today and whose trial should make an interesting sideshow to McCain's straight talk express campaign. The entire Alaska Republican party is under DOJ scrutiny for unethical and illegal favors from big oil the coddling of which is already ripe political fodder. She might just be yet another Republican to bring shame to Idaho.

Brought shame?

Hmmm, Plutarch, so what Republican brought shame to Idaho?

Duh...

How about Craig and Chenoweth just for starters?

Strange view

If Larry Craig shamed anyone it was himself, not Idaho. Why would I accept "shame" for what someone else did?

That is a very strange view of responsibility.

But then when "duh" is your response....

Whaaaaaa?

You do understand the concept of "representative" don't you? Surely you jest.

Shame by association?

So Bill Clinton shamed Arkansas, and Ellito Spitzer shamed New York....my goodness I guess I am to be shamed by someone every day. I feel so shamed by Joseph Duncan....

You folks live your lives through others' deeds and misdeeds if you want, but it seems like a pretty sad existence to me.

He's his OWN butthead. We're fine regardless and thank you!

Now that is REPRESENATIVE of what what we would get.

No More Loons, Please.

Wow

The kool aid is affecting your perception. You can't get much worse than Craig but are you proud of Sali, selway guy?

Rove called it, 'picking the veep on politics'; but wrong party

http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2008/08/10/ftn/main4336134.shtml
Quote from the CBS story:
"(CBS) Republican strategist Karl Rove said on Face The Nation Sunday that he expects presumptive Democratic nominee Barack Obama to choose a running mate based on political calculations, not the person's readiness for the job."
Wouldn't that describe McCain's pick?
Especially funny how Rove decribes Governor Kaine as being inappropriate due to only being a governor for 3 years, and being the mayor of only the 105th largest city in America. Where does Wasilla rank?

Who is Wasilla?

Obscure politicians for 200, Alex.

What if this story turns out to be true?

McCain's Judgement

The question should be whether or not McCain's judgement is sound. This New York Times article - http://www.nytimes.com/2008/09/02/us/politics/02vetting.html?ref=politics - pretty much says it all.

Do we want someone running this country who clearly doesn't think things through? Apparently his staff doesn't either.
