Countdown to kickoff: High school football begins tonight

The countdown to kickoff has begun.

The Treasure Valley high school football season begins Friday night with a slate of 12 games. And at 1 p.m. Saturday, Bishop Kelly opens the season at home against Portland's Central Catholic.

Below, I've provided a complete schedule of Friday's games and the preseason Idaho media high school football poll.

For more information, be sure to check out game capsules here, and for previews of all 43 football teams in our coverage area with schedules and players to watch, read our Football Preview '08.

If you can't make it out to a game Friday or Saturday, be sure to check www.IdahoStatesman.com/VarsityExtra or click here for the latest high school news and analysis. And beginning next Monday, be sure to vote in our online poll here to choose our Game of the Week. The winner earns a preview in Friday's paper and will be featured in Saturday morning's game coverage.

We've debuted several new features on our Varsity Extra Web site this week, including easier navigation, individual pages for teams and sports, a place for you to upload videos, links to our Varsity Extra forums and this blog, photo galleries and wallpaper downloads among other things.
