Boise State senior linebackers Kyle Gingg and Tim Brady said Wednesday they were surprised when coaches decided to juggle the linebacker corps last week.

Brady moved from the strong side to the weak side, Gingg moved from the weak side to the middle and freshman Aaron Tevis moved into the strong-side spot. Sophomore middle linebacker Derrell Acrey was the odd man out.

“It might take me a sec to really get in a groove,” said Gingg, who played weak side in 2006 and middle in 2007. “… I was just expecting to play (weak side) this year.”

Brady said the move to the weak side has gone surprisingly smooth for him. Defensive coordinator Justin Wilcox told him this week he maybe should have played the weak side all along.

“It’s a blast to play,” Brady said.

The linebackers also understand that this might not be the final trio. The Broncos are deep at the position with Acrey, senior Dallas Dobbs and freshmen Hunter White and Dan Paul in the picture.

“I think they want me to kind of be the guy that can play more than one position and kind of help get some other guys on the field,” Gingg said. “I don’t exactly know the whole plan, but that’s kind of the vibe I got.”

I’ll have more on the linebackers in Friday’s newspaper in my beat notes.
