Weekend outdoors pick

The ninth annual Sawtooth Salmon Festival is Saturday and in Stanley and it is definitely a time to celebrate the return of Idaho's sockeye salmon.

That's my pick for recreation this weekend. All the stuff will be from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Sunday with the celebration headquarters in the park next to Mountain Village on the south side of Idaho 21.

The festival will feature field trips to the river to see wild chinook salmon spawning; special sockeye education to celebrate this year’s increased run of sockeye; hands-on kid’s activities, including Gyotaku (traditional fish printing); a wild salmon feast; and lots more. It is a perfect event for kids.

Besides the festival, there's lots of other things to do in the Stanley area, like alpine hiking, mountain biking, fishing in the Salmon River and primo camping.

It's the perfect weekend to be up in the high country.

Have fun.

There has been a front wanting to come through here...

or so the weathercasters keep saying because they keep talking about storms and they don't really happen. You know that an occluded front will eventually break any dome that is currently moving storms around us so I would think to keep that in the back of your minds for the possibility of high winds and lightning whether it rains or not. Checking the forecast is always prudent when you go to the mountains anyway.

Not a doomsayer but we are overdue for such a storm.

Frost in Stanley

Supposed to get cold tonight in the mountains, forecast for 31 in Stanley.

We had a touch of frost this morning here at 4800 feet.

Sorry to say but that front made it here...

You nailed it FO

^^

Maybe I should have set it in concrete?

...oh well
