Petersen finds plenty to like about scrimmage

Boise State coach Chris Petersen said Wednesday that he found plenty of positives in Monday’s first scrimmage of the fall.

“The thing that jumped out at me is our tackling has improved,” Petersen said. “The other thing that jumped out is guys are making progress at knowing what to do.”

Still, he was not pleased with the emotion and enthusiasm — a problem he addressed by having the team run gassers after the scrimmage.

“If we couple that effort with some real emotion, we’re going to be close to playing the way we want to play,” Petersen said.

Petersen said he didn’t learn anything new about the quarterbacks competing for the starting job, senior Bush Hamdan and freshman Kellen Moore. They continue to split time with the first team.

The offense had trouble getting plays started Wednesday morning, the first of two practices on the day.

Bad snaps, false starts and quick sacks left the offense frustrated.

Petersen said those are common problems early in camp, particularly since the offense just started mixing up the snap count.

“We’ve got to keep talking and communicating,” sophomore left tackle Matt Slater said. “We’re still learning to play with each other. … It’s just the details.”

The offense did provide the two highlights in 11-on-11 sessions.

Senior quarterback Bush Hamdan hit senior wideout Vinny Perretta down the left sideline, with a defender in Hamdan’s face and two chasing Perretta, for an 85-yard touchdown.

On the next play, freshman tailback Doug Martin darted up the middle for 35 yards.

Cornerback Kyle Wilson later intercepted a Hamdan pass.

Wide Recievers

Are there any or have we no faith in the passing game....I rarely have seen or heard anything, it's all quarerback or all running back talk. What happened to the Boise "air attack"... Because it will be easy to key on if all we're gonna do is run. Or is the running game "that GOOD"?

Receivers not the problem

It is the O-Line from what I am reading in the paper over and over. It seems like we have a paper O-line. Cant get the ball to your receivers if your face down in the turf. Just ask Colt Brennan.

Wide receivers

The wide receivers are doing just fine — Vinny Perretta, in fact, has made a lot of big plays. There isn't much talk about them because there isn't much question about them. It's Childs, Young, Pettis, Perretta and Hawkins — probably the best set of five wideouts in the WAC.

Offensive issues

The problem we're hearing about has to do with the offensive line and QB. We've been spoiled by some great, cohesive, experienced O-lines, and this season's are none of those. Put a QB with very little or no game experience behind that line, and there could be some troubles moving the ball.

qb

"Put a qb with no game experience behind a weak line, and
there could be trouble moving the ball".

???? YA THINK ??? SCHEESH

PS, Not trying to be rude here, just hope we are thinking
ahead a little and chose a multi-year QB.

They got like 63 of em right?

Don't be no hog.
