Lomax weighs in on QB battle

Boise State junior quarterback Nick Lomax — who is still in the competition for the starting job (presumably) — offered his thoughts on the QB derby Wednesday:

— On his approach to the battle: "It’s like last year and I’m approaching it as such — go in and battle for the job again and don’t take anything for granted and just try to play every play like it’s going to be our last play and try to earn the spot with each and every play."

— On whether the competition is truly open: "I feel like it’s still wide open. As far as I know, I thought I had a pretty good spring. The coaches really haven’t given us anything more than, 'Hey, it’s going to be open competition.' We've still got to fight for our jobs again this year."

— On his strengths: "I have a little more understanding of what we’re trying to get out of the offense, what we’re trying to accomplish and I'm trying to bring that leadership into practice."

11:25 a.m. -- Now here's an out-of-the-box idea from Colorado. Seems the Buffaloes are pushing for zero trash from their home football games. The proposal also includes valet parking for bikes.

Hope those students don't steal the bikes.

Given the traffic around Bronco Stadium on gamedays this might be a pretty good idea.

9:27 a.m. -- Boise State enters its third day of fall camp with the biggest news story (Jeremy Childs return and suspension) behind it. While we all wait for an announcement on the next starting quarterback, the Broncos are getting into the difficult business of preparing for a football season.

Coach Chris Petersen acknowledged that during the first week of camp, execution is going to be spotty.

"I’d say the main thing is that we re-establish that process, that work ethic. That nobody takes anything for granted," Petersen said. "And we try to be the hardest-working team in America."

To that end, many of Petersen's comments at practice are to implore his players to play harder or keep working or finish each drill/play with intensity and effort. Petersen also talked about a "relentlessness to the ball." He talks about those things more than any coach I've been around.

Opponent watch: Idaho State's offensive line, which allowed 30 sacks last season, sees reasons for optimism this year.

Lomax DOES attend BSU! I was right about the "buried" remark!

And NO, I wouldn't trust my bike there or in Boise. OH WELL.
