Risch vs. bloggers: Campaign decries "left-wing hatemongers"
| Share |
Jim Risch has no problem with the blogging medium.
Just with bloggers he considers "left-wing hatemongers."
That's the explanation I got Thursday afternoon from Jason Risch, the Republican lieutenant governor's son and the manager of Risch's U.S. Senate campaign.
The younger Risch was reacting to this video, posted by blogger Serephin at the Democratic site 43rd State Blues:
Looking past Risch's Photoshopped gnome's hat and the doctored voice, the meat of this issue is this: Risch calls out the left-wing bloggers. In an e-mail Thursday, Jason Risch elaborated on the candidate's behalf.
"(Risch) draws a very distinct line between legitimate media and the bloggers that are left-wing hatemongers," Jason Risch wrote. "The blogging done by legitimate media sources are not in the same category as the left-wing hatemongers. He considers the legitimate media, legitimate — regardless of the medium used to convey news."
I wonder where the national Democratic blog Daily Kos fits in that continuum. On Thursday, the blog called the Idaho Senate race "shockingly wide open," after commissioning a poll that revealed Risch with a 10-point lead over Democrat Larry LaRocco.
Somehow I doubt the "hatemonger" comment will go over well in the blogosphere. Nor will this: Jason Risch says he has seen the doctored video and says it "appears childish," but says his father hasn't seen it. Bloggers and LaRocco have both sought to get mileage out of Risch's stated lack of interest in reading blogs.

Uh
How would he know we're hatemongers if he doesn't access a computer? How would he know if he has no problem with medium if he never looks at it? Seems out of touch to me. The only person more out of touch with the medium is soon to be ex Senator Ted "Tubes" Stevens. And they're both decidedly without humor.
Maybe if he would address germane issues with Idahoans or his opponents more focus would be placed on substance and less focus would be placed on Serephin's snark. Alas this is what we're left with and its nobody's fault but his.
See? I told you he doesn't have to debate?
He can kill his candidacy REMOTELY.
Next time you might listen although I doubt it :-p
It's the internet Risch doesn't get, scary
Kevin I think that people go after Risch not for ignoring blogs but for his lack of knowledge/interest in email and the internet. Anybody these times who has no email is just nuts and so out of touch with the modern world that theyre probly outof touch with other items too. Not to know/Use the Net is like not knowing about or using telephones when they were invented. It says My Thinking Is Old-Fashioned and That Is Good. Which it is SO NOT.
information from Blogs is like Military intelligence
There are some who travel these Blogs who have a open mind and can listen to other points of view. One has to wonder reading some of them what contribution have the writers made to life in general and can they pay their bills on time and balance their checkbook. Its easy to throw cheapshots and attacks from ones computer in the safety and anoynimity of their homes, its another to go public and in the open forum of ideas and take the heat. After reading comments that battle back and forth between many writers its easy to see why someone with limited time to run for office would skip getting in the middle of some of the food fights I read in these entries. The hate and disdain that some show for other opinions only reflect on themselves and say more about themselves than those they attack. I like a exchange of facts on subjects im not up on to learn but for a candidate to dive deeply into these blogs would show a need for self inflicted pain and neverending heap of insults.Only someone with to much time on his hands would spend a lot of time in this medium,im retired so i have it but I I see few people listning only quacking at strangers.
Guy's right---lefty hatemongers everywhere.
READ ! Count ! They numerically dominate blogs---in number of names called they have no match.
Anybody can call you a $^((&^&(...
no matter what their leanings are politically. Just declaring you right or wrong is namecalling so meaningless subterfuge only gains power from your assessment of relative power upon others.
By this reasoning it is no surprise thatcommanding atention is gathered by these natural-born tactics. In the proper schema of life this neither an anomaly noe necessarily evil...by all means, it is EXPECTED!
The elimination of dissent is unhealthy in not nurturing to the source of the dissent and with out two opposing forces life becomes a cancer upon itself.
By defining something you have named it. How then does this constitute a purely evil thing?
It's FUNNY as to how many
LEFT-WING REPUBLICANS there are. If they bring it on and you call the that, this must be the case.
Straighten up and fly center.
My Blog
Heres my blog.
George Bush is the reason I am suffering greatly. All things are the way things are is because of Republicans.I made six digits under Clinton now I make 8$ an hour. I was shopping the other day and Larry Craig is the reason bread prices went up.
I was watching cable TV and Fox news said to kill your young. I was told once that George Bush owns Fox news because they only show us the rosy side of him.
I get everything I hear from Idaho statesman comment section and the republicans ruined Boise, the north side even.
I have republican rage. Kinda like road rage. Its really an easy way out,but it works well on comment forums.
The Democrats do not control the house and the senate. No laws have been passed under Nancy Pelosi that are detrimental to liberty. Its all Geoge Bush's fault. He has vetoed all wilderness bills too. And ocean preserves.
Do you like my blog I'm really good at blaming Bush for all the problems in the world. I look really informed that way.
I cant wait till Barack gets in theres gonna be change!
I will make a billion dollars in two days, war will be over in the middle east, gas will 2$ a gallon. Nancy Pelosi said they were gonna do it last year its because the republicans are in control of all forms of Govt.
Nancy Pelosi is the incarnate of Buddha,Harry Reid is the incarnate of a saint I have yet to pinpoint.
I am right you are wrong, Republicans are to blame.
Nancy told me so.
Theres gonna be change!!! everybody will eat nobody will starve. Jobs Jobs and more jobs all paying six digits yearly. Green jobs too.
I hang out in Hollywood alot and the attitude is the same. We al blame, blame, blame GWB,GWB,Gwb you just wait and see how wonderful its all gonna be.
Hollyweird,Hollyweird TOLD ME SO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BWAAAAA!!!!
BWAAAAA!!!!
Got more for you, Stevie...
Bush's rosy side is covered by elastic with a picture of anthropomorphic fruit in the back.
Hail Atlantis! The highway to hell is nearly completed.
good'n,stevie.
Palosi? A CNN reporter said she is not the person you'd want to copy off of at test time. She's stoopid. That from the Clintoon News Network! No less.Any evidence to the contrary? We'll have to wait to see what Hussein will do after his unlikely election....since he won't debate anybody, let alone Mccain.Turn the lights out,dimmokritters---you 'free speech' lovers, you. You seekers after "deeversitie". hee hee Watta joke.
Hypocrisy much?
"in number of names called they have no match."
"what Hussein will do"
"Clintoon News Network"
"She's stoopid"
"dimmokritters"
And that's just from two posts right here. Do you have something substantive to say, Apey? If so please get a dictionary before you type.
Therein lies the problem!
Thanks Plutarch for pointing it out, and you hit on just one of many offenders.
While Risch and McCain should be far more e-literate, you only need look at the posts to tire quickly of the names, insults, threats, and dirt.
Of course no one side of an issue is free of guilt, there are insults enough to go around. It is far worse than talk radio where even with some anonymity people can still hear your voice. In the blogosphere there seems to be this proclivity to say whatever you might think because you can hide behind a fake name.
I understand fake names, especially government employees and many in the corporate world could put their jobs at risk for taking a position. But my take is to not say anything on these pages you wouldn't stand and say in a town hall meeting.
That would clean it up some, and hey, let's argue ideas and candidates, and policy and taxes - whatever the issues are. That's fun, around the blogotable drinking beverages and arguing, but not being jerks and ending up in a fight outside.
Sheesh, we are surely smarter than that. If we are not then Kevin should take our toy away...or make us pay (subscribe) to play.
I like not
the two proposals you submit Mike. It won't necessarily clean it up. Newspapers are a necessary part of democracy. Decreasing content is their first undoing and I don't blame the journalists for it, but the bean counters who don't know the biz and who are holding their leashes. I think they must embrace the internet to maintain their relevance. In so doing they can enlist the aid of citizen journalists to assist in newsgathering. But blogs remain a fantastic replacement for the public square for airing ideas.
Two proposals
Please understand, I am not proposing either. Those are sorta silly throw-aways that we could end up with if we don't write and debate in a civil fashion - our own undoing.
And yes, blogs can become the public square - it is all soooo cool, unless we ruin it ourselves.
Left-wing, right-wing...lots of handicapped birds.
hay there plutarch.......
you quoted my name calling, let me give you the statesman blogs'fare for just today :I was called a puke, pig, sexpot, troll & told to go "waller in the mud" by yer lefty pals. In the couple weeks I've been here I've been called, among many other things, 'offal','bovine excrement','gorilla' and told to "go F-Y-S". As I said elsewhere on Richert's blog, these blogs need more balance & diversity of opinion rather than just an endless stream of nonsense directed at non-lefties---a stream I have enjoyed reversing,as you noted(I am a fan of,"when in Rome,do as the Romans do"). Your quotations of my name calling totally ignore the issues of balance & substance which I raised.Per usual, the stateman's lefty bloggers shoot(at) the messanger and miss the point. Your assertion that blogs are a "fantastic replacement for the public square for airing ideas" is utter nonsense. The blogs here are examples of believers preaching to their choir & badmouthing the few heretics who show up. The narrowness and temper of them reminds one of a backwoods evangelical church and in no way resembles the intellectual diversity true democratic political discourse demands. Til that changes, have a nice day, dimmokritter.Hussein too.Aire up yer tyres yet, plutarch old girlie boy?
Not helpful
You play into their game.
Simply write above it and you raise the level, let them lower it.
