Rattlesnake-dog clinic set Aug. 9 in Boise

With all this talk about rattlesnakes, guess what? The 13th Annual Rattlesnake Avoidance Training clinic is set Aug. 9 at Veterans Memorial Park.

Members of the Snake River Versatile Gun Dog Club will train dogs to avoid rattlers by sight, scent and sound.

The training is from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Cost is $30. Dog owners should have reservations and they can be made by calling 463-2304.

"We have had an awful time this year trying to collect enough gopher snakes for the clinic," said Heidi Funke, event coordinator. "I was going to postpone the event due to the snake situation, however, the club is determined to find enough before Aug.9.

The clinic is a community service project and fundraiser for the non-profit organization, but this year a portion of the snake clinic proceeds will be donated to local animal shelters, she said.

"They are in dire need of financial assistance due to the economy and many people not being able to afford to care for their horses, dogs and cats," she said.
