Let's talk movies: "Gonzo" and "Dark Knight"
Submitted by Michael Deeds on Fri, 07/18/2008 - 11:44am.
For those of you who read “The Cinemaniac": That movie blog has been absorbed into this entertainment blog. I’ll be pumping up the movie information here to go along with reviews and thoughts about music, comedy and, yes, those fascinating liquor reports. A couple of quickies:
—“Gonzo: The Life and Work of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson” — a documentary-style film that I’m excited to see — will play at 7 p.m. Aug. 7 at The Flicks in Downtown Boise. That’s the opening night of the True West Cinema Fest. One of the movie’s producers/editors, Alison Ellwood, will appear at the screening. “Gonzo” will open for its regular run beginning Aug. 15 at The Flicks.
—Anyone catch “The Dark Knight” yet? Whaddaya think? It’s received almost unanimously positive reviews — “Better than ‘Batman Begins’” seems to be the general reaction. (Not sure that means it’s all that incredible.) Critics are enamored with Heath Ledger’s twisted portrayal of “The Joker.” Not to be callous, but I have to wonder: Is the praise partly related to Ledger’s tragic death?
— I’ll post the weekly "Flashback" contest question this afternoon. Start popping popcorn.
