Only 16 shopping days until Digital Television Transition Awareness Month
Submitted by Kevin Richert on Wed, 07/16/2008 - 12:49pm.
No problem ever gets solved until Congress designates a month to call attention to the problem.
Lucky for us all, the Senate isn't going to allow next February's conversion to digital TV sneak up on us unawares. Senators have passed a resolution declaring August 2008 "Digital Television Transition Awareness Month." Idaho Sen. Mike Crapo was one of the 32 co-sponsors of the resolution, which squeaked through on a voice vote.
While you breathe a quick sigh of relief, here's a word from one of our co-sponsors. “This resolution will raise public awareness concerning the change in television signals,” Crapo said in a news release. “Western states have a high concentration of people who receive their television signals over the air, and we don’t want them to be caught off guard.”
So what does one buy for a loved one to celebrate Digital Television Transition Awareness Month? Might I suggest this here Philco, complete with rabbit ears?

TVs and Gas
If Congress & Bush put as much effort into a national energy conservation campaign as the FCC (et al) has put into this digital TV campaign, (and the economic stimulus BS) we would not have a fuel price problem.
And 40% of the working poor couldn't get gas due to snafu?
If you live in a residence with a single address for all (a trailer park or nursing home come to mind), the one family per address thing means you have to find a person to apply for you.
I spent my economic stimulus check on
a new hdtv as mandated by our goverment. It was made in China and the Chinese seem to be enjoying the effects of our governments regulations and handouts more than we are.
Pre-1981 Trinitrons. VPH 1044Q and Zenith Pro 880 CRT Projectors
Pioneer Laserdisc times two. Only the two Sony VHS Hi-Fis and the DTV box are from China.
PS At least the stupid thing works I guess.
I've already transitioned my digits...
Digital Stream box shuts down at some point when you are away?
Actually did it when I was sitting there.
Annoying.
Also gets warmer than THIS 17 inch CRT monitor I'm using now when it's left on for hours and sells like a funky old GE AM tube clock radio I have.
Interesting choice of set, and I'm not fooling...
12LP4/4A would've been more common. I parted a Stromberg Carlson AM/FM/Phono-TV console chassis from about that time and it made for INTERESTING PACKING too.
We had a ZENITH porthole set at the local auction a couple years back, also '50 or '51. I have a Hotpoint Hi-Vi portable, 9" Panasonic Speed-O-Vision and 1963 RCA Victor 19" New Vista B/W portable, all needing work of course.
