"Gonzo" worthy of Hunter S. Thompson legacy?

Back in college, I was fortunate enough to interview Dr. Hunter S. Thompson twice. The second conversation was an accident. He phoned me late at night at home for reasons I still don't entirely understand. He sounded "under the influence." It was thrilling. Like millions of other Americans, I had been blown away when I read "Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas" for the first time as a teenager.

That's why I'm so intrigued by "Gonzo," a documentary/biopic coming out July 4. It's always wise not to get your hopes up for films about your idols, but the trailer looks promising.

More documentary than "biopic"

A "biopic" would be more along the lines of "Ray", "Man on the Moon", etc.. etc. This is going to a documentary about Hunter's life. And if superfan/friend of HST Johnny Depp is working with it then you know it'll give the good Dr. the proper justice he most certainly deserves. As to you interviewing Hunter... You are a lucky bastard (can I say that here?)indeed. You didn't have to rub it in by saying you've interviewed him twice -- I now call into question your compassion for your fellow man.

Personally, I really, really can't wait for Depp's performance as Kemp in Hunter's "The Rum Diary"; one of my favorite books of all time. A book best read with the Caribbean sea lapping at the sand only feet away.

Oh brother...here comes the cult.
