Senate candidate calls out no-show rivals

No-show Senate candidate Lt. Gov. Jim Risch isn't just hitting a nerve with debate sponsors.

Neal Thompson, one of the eight Republicans looking to succeed Larry Craig is ripping Risch and several other rivals for skipping appearances in Cascade, Grangeville, Twin Falls and Burley.

From an e-mail from the McCall Republican:

"In the past two weeks, I have spoken at 2 Republican Commitee Forums and two Open Forums. It is interesting that Jim Risch, Fred Adams, Richard Phenneger, and Scott Syme have chosen not to attend any of these events.

"At a time when Idaho and our Nation's economy is struggling, we have candidates who are unwilling to stand in front of their voters to be held accountable by looking them in the eye and answering their heartfelt questions.

"Jim Risch's article in Tuesday's paper reaks of political rhetoric and cowardice. Shame on him for turning his nose up at Idaho voters in his self proclaimed front runner position. While I was asked by the voters why none of the other candidates were showing up at their forums. To see the frustration, hurt, and anger in their eyes said it all.

"If this is any reflection of the type of representation that we will get from these men in Washington, what does that say of their character. All Idahoans want and demand representation of their party affiliation."

Neal Thompson remark about forums.

I would like to know if he has made it to all the forums or if he is talking only about he ones in his area. How can a candidate attend every forum? I guess they can try but some like Scott Syme has come out and talked to the individual voter and asked their opion one on one.

I have been to every

I have been to every announced forum or forum that I was invited too. I have made an effort to get out and meet every voter face to face that I can with the limited amount of funds I have available. I talk to voters every day and will continue to do so. I must also say that having the most money doesn't necessarily mean you are the best candidate to represent our state in Washington.

And they can still throw darts or vote incumbent.

You never know if you got prime rib or bologna till 1 am.

They got TV now, Neal. Mosee down to the Western Auto...

and check out that RCA Victor they got. It's dandy!

Debate dodgers

I figure when a candidate skips a forum, or refuses to participate in the debates on Idaho Public Television, he has a good reason: If the people get to see him and hear him too much, they might realize what he's really like, and so would never vote for him (or her).

Then there are the ones who will appear only on debates where they can control how the debate will be handled. Why? Same reason; so people won't find out too much about them.

Skipping a debate (other than for a really good excuse, such as being dead) should be a political death sentence for any candidate.

Call OUT...

You don't imply?

You've GOT to learn more words?

You've got something derailing your one track!
