Jonny Lang and Joe Bonamassa bring the blues

Got the blues?

You're about to: Singers-guitarists Jonny Lang and Joe Bonamassa are coming to The Big Easy/Knitting Factory. Lang will perform Aug. 8 Aug. 4. Bonamassa is slated for Aug. 12. The Lang show is not on sale yet, but it's confirmed. Bonamassa tickets are $17.50 and $25 at TicketWeb. Believe it or not, an attempt was made to book them on the same bill. Apparently, they ain't particularly hip to that.

Along with Kenny Wayne Shepherd, Lang and Bonamassa were part of a small crop of blues-guitar prodigies that emerged in the '90s. Lang was just 16 when "Lie To Me" scorched ears and drew comparisons to Stevie Ray Vaughan. Bonamassa, who is more influenced by British guitarists, got his start at 12 opening for B.B. King. But Bonamassa, now 30, remains a virtual unknown compared to Lang, 27, who will sell a whole bunch of tickets. Bonamassa only drew about 275 people when he played Boise last time. But it was sure worth it for them.

Bonamassa is a slightly more nuanced, accomplished guitar player than Lang, which is definitely saying something. Conversely, Lang is the better singer. You really can't go wrong with either of these guys if you're into blues-rock shredding. Might as well pawn your own guitar and do both shows.

Here's Bonamassa playing "Sloe Gin" at a festival in 2007. The solo comes at 3:45. He's, like, pretty good and stuff.

I hope you enjoy yourself at the concert. It sounds like fun.

Scooping Deeds!

Steve Earle is playing the Winery at Eagle Knoll on July 11th. Should be a fun show.

Yep

You're correct, this show is now confirmed. I think it deserves its own blog post. Earle in Eagle is a good thing.

Should...

Deeds ???!!!

Deeds is the only reporter that is less reliable than the weatherman. I've been reading his column as long as he has been writing it, only because I can at least get some entertainment info (even if it is wrong a good share of the time). He is consistintenly wrong with his concert dates. This week, he has started blaming someone else for his bad info (promoter Idaho Concerts for the wrong date on Neko Case). I was wondering where he keeps getting his bad info, because he has never returned any of my numerous e-mails inquiring about his mistakes. Today, Jonny Lang tics went on sale. Hopefully you didn't have plans to see him on Aug 8, as reported by Deeds on 5/1. The date is 8/4.
And...his opinions!?!? Well, I guess everyone has a right to their own opinion, even if it seems way off to the mass majority. It just adds to his unbelievability.

The source he gets his info from is known for being tentative...

and for goodness sake, Panchito, it's for stuff one quarter away?

Are you the promotor Nazi or deedsux?
