In 30 some years of driving to Sun Valley from Boise on the same route through Fairfield, I had to make a major change over the weekend and it was a pleasant discovery.
I love driving U.S. 20 out of Mountain Home and cruising over Cat Creek Summit and across the Camas Prairie. But U.S. 20 was closed over the weekend because of blowing and drifting snow.
So, we had to take another route - I-84 to Bliss; U.S. 26 to Shoshone; Idaho 75 to Sun Valley. It looks a lot longer on the map but was really only about 12 miles longer on the odometer.
It was a lot quicker because of the freeway speeds.
The freeway scenery doesn't compare with U.S. 20 over Camas Prairie with the Solder Mountains in the background. And, there's also that espresso shop in Fairfield, which is located just at the right spot for a break.
Then again, going the route through Bliss, there's always the short detour to Hagerman and the Snake River Grill for dinner.
Guess the best way to make a decision on the route to Sun Valley is whether you have a hankering for a mocha or grilled catfish.

Filet-O-Fish is probably it.
No coffee, rather have a big Hershey bar. No almonds. Who's driving?
At least you enjoy these things. Maybe I'll hit Fruitland this week.
It will give all the homophobic rambling idiots on this site that say I babble ammunition.
12 miles longer, wrong
You might want to check your odometer. It's more like 22 miles longer with the much longer speed trap of Shoshone to deal with. And, during certain snow conditions, it can be equally dangerous or even worse. An easterly wind can really blow a lot of snow onto HWY 75 between Shoshone and Timmerman Hill.
Solution...
Don't go.
