Your weekend movie options
The biggest new release of the weekend by far is "I Am Legend," a quasi-remake of the 1970s cult classic film "Omega Man." Look no further than "Men in Black," "Independence Day" or "The Pursuit of Happyness" to realize that pretty much anything Will Smith touches is gold.
Smith plays the last man on earth, who, with his trusty German Shepherd, keeps the mutated people with an appetite for flesh who inhabit New York City at bay.
This movie should feature some good action, even though several critics have been saying it kind of peters out as it nears its end.
Then there's the say-it-ain't-so live action "Alvin and the Chipmunks" movie. Jason Lee, who had been earning cred for "My Name is Earl," just set himself back years by starring next to the animated chipmunks in this one.
Also out are the romantic comedy "The Perfect Holiday," another romantic comedy "2 Days in Paris" and "Sleuth," which stars Michael Caine and Jude Law.
In "Sleuth," Law's character is having an affair with Caine's character's wife. Caine invites Law over to his mansion, and a game of cat and mouse follows.
If I weren't catching up on movies I haven't seen over the past few weeks, I'd go with "I Am Legend." I'm guessing most moviegoers will as well.

what's not to like?
Combination vampire/zombies. Car crashes. Explosions. Gunfire. Actually, it wasn't bad.
Sounds a lot like "Blade"
No swords though.
