Culture vulture roundup

*Thanks to Ian Astbury’s big mouth, we can all start saving money for a really expensive concert ticket next year: Led Zeppelin’s U.S. tour! How much would you pay? $200? $300? $1,000?

*Can’t say I’m surprised that Josh Groban’s “Noel” album is No. 1.

*Buffy the Vampire Slayer in the BUFF! Sort of. Either way, I have a feeling that fans are wondering why Sarah Michelle Gellar thought a Maxim magazine cover was necessary at this point in her career.

*Earlier this year, I got an e-mail from the mother of Marilyn Manson’s ex-wife Dita Von Teese — her mom lives in the Treasure Valley — indicating that I wasn’t hard enough on Manson in a CD review. As a husband, Dita's mom implied, Manson was sort of a snake.

*Billie Piper is returning to “Doctor Who”! I’m not ashamed to say that makes me squeal like a little girl. And I know nobody cares about this in Idaho besides me besides me and the nerds who commented below. Heh.

*MORE COWBELL, BABY!
Don’t let your Christopher Walken-hating boss know you’ve wasted 20 minutes rocking out on this awesome creation.

*Ever wonder what happened to the Dell Dude? Me neither. Still.

Biiiilllllllliiiiieeeee! OMG that's SWEET

Pertwee, Tom Baker and Eccleston are my favorite Doctors, but I never really liked the ladies until Billie :)

$9.99 plus shipping! I own The Song Remains The Same on laserdisc.

There are plenty of Sarah Geller heads stripped on naked chix. I get the picture already.

The thought of Manson married wasn't as freekie as the name Dita Von Teese!

I wished I could reverse the cowbell, quarter-speed and flange it BABY!

I always thought I had to be stoned after trying to make anything out of a frikkin Optiplex P166.

Welcome back, master. How shall we serve thee? ;-0

Doctor companions

As a kid growing up on "Doctor Who" reruns on PBS, I had a crush on Elisabeth Sladen, aka Sarah Jane Smith, and Louise Jameson, aka Leela. (I was into dinosaurs, too, so the cave-chick outfit really did it for me.) Billie Piper may be the best of all. Even my wife likes her. But none compares to K-9. When they brought the little guy back for a show last year, I almost bawled.

Oh yeah...gotta shout out for this...

We have two future unemployed Boise jocks that were born this week! Congratulations Ken (River) and Michelle Bass and Pete Stauffer of J105 and his wife Amy.

Boy, Lilly has a nice head of hair : )

Autumn has adopted the quiet sleepy look, sorta like her pa...

: ) K-9

That dog was something! I tend to think the show is the most inspired television program ever and it was so inspired because I don't think it was ever generously funded most of the time so they had to be very creative. Search for Doctor Who or especially Radiophonic Workshop on You Tube and there is a ton of footage of not only the action, opening and closings and various Doctors but a 7-part special about the Radiophonic Workshop that is wonderful (but get past the gray old geezer that pops up in strange places and the clock that is almost always at 10 after--it's Britain, you know)!

K-9 is da bom

err, da dawg.
Who wouldn't like a dog like that?

Great to hear Billie will be back. I was just dissapointed they offed Christopher Eccelson after only one season.

That didn't make sense after...

they had the notion of bringing Doctor Who back to the North American market, a place where many fans came into the mix with Tom Baker and seven years later probably felt a bit lost with Peter Davison, a fine actor but not much of a Doctor. After a couple flings at trying to recreate Troughton (Doctor #1) and weaving those Tardis wrong numbers that would bring all the living Doctors together occasionally into enormously popular serials, I thought they had found a good character for us here. I wasn't totally sure that the Doctor should be as involved with the companion but this WAS 2005 or so and the production teams were from CANADA and I think WALES...

The premise of REGENERATION that allowed the BBC to so easily change the actors needs to be handled more gently!

I'm not a REAL nerd!

I didn't watch until nearly 1/3 of the season through.

Takes one to know one! Nerd, nerd NEEERRRDDD!

I'm a geek anyway...I bought the pipes and mounting stuff to build my antenna and mast too, at a Home Repo in yonder place of thine own stature and glory, home of the untamed horse and microchip's hearse.

Uh huh, that place. You are correct, WHIRRRRRRRRRR.

Garden City.

Josh Grobin?

What's on it? We only have a Wall-Art Super-velvet Center for the common physical playback formats.

I'm out of Pterodons to play them, though and Mr. Slate cut my hours.
