Here's what some Statesman letter writers had to say about Tuesday's Larry Craig interviews:
• Peter Petersen, Boise: “Liar, liar pants on fire Sen. Craig. Quit thinking about yourself and think of the good people of Idaho. Resign. It is the right thing to do for us.”
• Stanley E. Stolarski, Twin Falls: "After watching Senator Craig’s television interviews, here is what you should consider. A Minnesota bridge collapse made news and when a reporter wanted to investigate they were threatened to be arrested by a police officer. Senator Craig’s incident took that story off the news. Senator Craig stated he was profiled. This assumes both parties were innocent. I think he was targeted. He said he went to the same airport weekly and the same men’s room regularly. I think his political opposition noticed this and set a trap.
"After the story was first reported, we have heard from Senator Craig several times. But we have not heard from the arresting officer, the police chief, the unidentified accuser on tape with his voice altered, the person who provided the media with the arrest record, or the person who suggested conducting a sting. This is political and this was the way the Democrats try to remove a Republican from office. Senator Craig should stay in office to let opponents know this is not the way to conduct politics. The voters should decide who they want in office, not the Democratic Party, the courts, the mainstream media, or the police."
• John Rumps, Boise: "C'mon Larry! Try as you might to spin it as such, it's not about the Statesman or 'media storms.' It's not about 'gladiator politics.' It's not about how many of your good old boy political cronies whisper sweet nothings in your ear. It's not about your 'I don't just walk away from a fight' bravado. It's not about whether you are gay or ever have been, or the width of your stance. Rather, it's ALL about whether or not you can be an effective voice for Idahoans in the U.S. Senate for the next 15 months given all that has transpired since June. Anyone not totally blinded by political loyalty can see that the answer is NO. If Idaho's Republican leadership had any semblance of a spine they would be giving you that message forcefully and publicly. So please - for the sake of the citizens of this state whom you profess to hold in such high regard - do the right thing, face the facts, end the national scorn and step aside."
• Donn Sickles, Eagle: "One must feel sorry for Larry Craig. As a long-time politician who has very little connection with the real world, it is apparent he has lost any ability to face reality. He has so distanced himself from the day-to-day world of people who work for a living that he is only able to rationalize his way through life. There is an arrogance that comes with the 'exalted' position of a 'politician.' He seems to believe that feelings are more important that truth and, as a result, he is intentionally trying to obscure the truth by deflecting attention to his perceived 'victimhood.' He is unable to reckon with any objective reality and does not want to accept the consequences of the decisions he made regarding his actions. Any husband who withholds any arrest from his wife is an unfaithful husband. He claims he wants to 'complete his work' so he can bring more money to Idaho. True to his political view, he assesses everything in terms of money and believes that Idahoans are only interested in money and that integrity is something that doesn't matter. Larry needs to wake up and face reality and accept the consequences of his actions. He should understand that truth and integrity are the measure of a man, whether they are a politician or not. Any senator who lacks judgment, reason and who cannot face reality should not be a senator. Already he is willing to rationalize his way into a job as a lobbyist. Doesn't that speak volumes regarding his value to Idaho?"
• John Love, Boise: "The national Craig interview left me plenty angry with both the softball tossing Matt Lauer, and Craig himself. Larry Craig is certainly an excellent liar, a dubious attribute some might legitimately yet sadly argue is an integral inclusion in an honest job description for any politician. But two points on Lauer's shortcomings as an interviewer:
"1) Suzanne responded to Lauer's comment that many in Idaho wanted her husband to resign with the point that many wanted him to stay. Had Lauer done his homework, he'd have quoted the most recent poll which showed that Idahoans wanted him to go by a margin of about 2-1. As I recall, it was 51% "go" and 20-some 'stay' with probably half the balance undecided and of course another 15% or so completely oblivious to who he is and/or what has happened.
"2) Craig made the dubious point that he'd built a position of power in 27 years for the State of Idaho and that he could still be an effective advocate. Lauer should have responded with facts: Craig's been stripped of most of his committee positions and power, and is little other than a lame duck with a vote at this juncture.
"Craig's motivation is hardly for his constituents. He wants to save face with his family, and as Dan Popkey points out in today's excellent column: maintain his potential for a lucrative lobbyist position as Bob Packwood was able to do.
"I don't give a rat's a** whether Larry Craig is straight, gay, or something in between. This is about hypocrisy and credibility. The former he oozes in buckets, and the latter is lacking entirely. Idaho deserves better. Craig is an embarrassment to our great state and he needs to resign NOW."

Let's break down the facts on Larry's C#apper Caper
Stanley Stolarski, let's break down each clue. The evidence is so overwhelming that only a mind-controlled zombie would question it:
- Trotting 1/4 mile with a bladder full of "3 or 4 coffees" - past 3 other restrooms before choosing the renowned anonymous sex bathroom. (Amazing bladder control for an old guy)
- Waiting outside the young police officer's stall for 2 minutes, PEERING THROUGH THE CRACK, while other stalls were empty. (Creepy!)
- Two MORE minutes of bladder control? I thought he was going number 1, not number 2??
- Sliding his briefcase (and satchel?) to the front of the stall to make room for footsie play.
- Tapping his RIGHT FOOT, a well known signal IN THAT BATHROOM for soliciting anonymous public sex (which is ILLEGAL folks).
- Sliding his foot UNDER the stall wall. (More creepy!)
- Sliding his foot under the stall and TOUCHING the young man's foot. (Super Creepy!)
- Putting his LEFT HAND under the stall wall showing his wedding ring, an important secret code IN THAT BATHROOM for soliciting anonymous sex - if you have the stomach for gay porn you can verify this online.
- Stroking the filthy underside of the stall wall in a suggestive manner, which is another of the many signals. (Okay, I'm ready to call a cop or punch this guy's lights out now!)
- Shrieking "No!" when the young officer presented his badge - wouldn't most INNOCENT people be confused and say, "whaaa?".
- No pooh, no flush - what was he doing?
- Presenting his Senatorial Card in a threatening manner, proclaiming "What do you think of that?".
- Claiming Entrapment before he was told of the charges (listen to the audio). Entrapment to what? How would he know if he doesn't practice anonymous sex?
- The cover-up, keeping the whole thing secret for months.
- Copping the plea. What part of "Pleading Guilty" do you not understand? Denying it now is way sillier than Clinton's mincing about oral sex.
- Saying he was going to resign.
- Lies.
- Then flip flopping and saying he would resign if he didn't get the plea dismissed at the end of September.
- More Lies.
- Flip flopping again at the end of September and arrogantly stating "I will not resign".
- Phone recording emerges in which Craig coyly discusses to use the word "INTENT" in his resignation speech.
- Lying Liar.
- Twisting all of the documented facts in a well scripted TV interview and attempting to besmirch an honorable young police officer with a full career ahead of him. Is this how US Senators HONOR our brave law officers?
- Contradicts himself in interview: "I took the easy way out...by pleading guilty", then says "I never take the easy way out..." regarding his resignation fight.
- Stay tuned. His "INTENT" not to run for reelection might change.
Lobbyist
Why run for again, he has taken US for enough. Great retirement, health care, & benefits the rest of US are losing more of everyday.
Craig can become a lobbyist & make $300,000 a year, minimum, on top of what we'll ready be paying him. He'll pay some guy $11 an hour to stand in line so he can walk up at the last minute to buy our representation, the same representation he sold for who knows how much over the years. Illegal immigration sound familiar? No wonder some capitalist is willing to stand in line for $11 an hour, illegal immigration will have him working for far less before long & he doesn't even realize he's feeding the beast. All the American taxpayers don't realize they're feeding the same animal by not doing anything about it. Americans won't do those jobs? Americans did those jobs thirty years ago when they paid a living wage!

Yesterday's paper must have been an early halloween prank. Was that Mukasey, Gonzales or Craig with an ugly mask on? In one sentence Mukasey contradicted himself yet both parties are all about this guy. He claims he would resign if Bush planned unconstitutional action. I'll bet the first time Bush says sh-t this clown squats! He may as well get in position because Bush is in the process of unconstitutional action every time he opens his mouth with another billowing of diarrhea!
Bush has been signing off legislation with execuative privilage all along. We may as well let Congress & the US Senate go. Bush has rendered them impotent, neutered! Why pay $170K a year. provide health care, & retirement to a bunch of of whipped, wet behind the ears, whining, on the porch, pups? All they're going to do is become lobbyist & buy the same representation they were selling when we paid them %165K a year.
While acknowledging that the Guantanamo Bay detention center had given the United States "a black eye" Mukasey said he didn't believe the detainees had been mistreated. Every word out of this clown's mouth were lies, he's a perfect AG for the Bush administration!

Obviously Mr Solarski has never been accused of being a deep thinker. To infer that political opposition had information that Senator craig was in the habit of prowling the toilets for sex with strangers and was coming thru one of the busiest airports in the Midwest and they contacted the police dept to station a man to sit on a toilet 24 hrs a day till they caught that toilet peeping rascal defies reason. It seems many others were arrested for the same conduct,maybe they resembled senator craig and were arrested for that reason by your thinking . As a retired police officer who participated in many stake outs (armed robbery not toilet sex)the last thing in the world I would want to do is talk publicly about my expiriences in a toilet stake out . Can you imagine the stupid questions you would be asked by the press and others.That would stay with you the rest of your career. Maybe Mr solarski is comfortasble with strangers hitting on each other in public toilets for his own reasons but I would be very upset if my privacy was invaded or my children or grandchildren by behavior like that. This happens in every town in the united states in libraries parks and public parking lots and cant be stopped but it can be cut down.If senator craig stays in office he could at least assure us he will keep his urges to himself out of public awareness . Sali's mindset
Congressman Bill Sali is always ready to Stand Up for everything that's right and good about this country, and one of the best things about the USA is that most people don't ever think about sex. That's not the case for the socialists at the Idaho Socialist Statesman, though. Today, they're spending all their web resources vainly trying to get people to believe that Senator Larry Craig wanted to have sex with a man, and making the good people of Idaho think about prostitution and how it can be found on the Internet.
You'd have to be an idiot to believe most people don't ever think about sex. Hate to break it to you but without sex many of us wouldn't be around, in your case I wish you parents wouldn't have thought about it.

Craig is too intelligent to plead guilty just to make something go away. How about the bravado, with his senatorial id card............,WHOA, TALL, MONEY HUNGRY "DIFFERENT" PERSON. With a $9 trillion debt I imagine you're going to pay your $30K to get US out of debt out of your next pay check. While we have that $9 trillon debt is any of it due to tax cuts in return for contributions, campaign finance?
I'm stirrng it up because I tried to call representatives, wrote letters, sent emails & it did absolutely no good! I bet I've sent over 300 or 400! There wasn't one time when my paid reresentatives acted in favor of the people who put them in office. When my boss was stealing federal excess property they didn't want to know & wouldn't do anything, lied to cover it up. after I had an investagive reporter catch my boss stealing your tax $, that's when they lied! The same 18 year old kids dying without equipment that could prevent their loss of life or limb & you support that? You don't get it do you? You support the lie democracy has become while kids with their entire life ahead of them lose due to this crime called campaign finance!
That's what you're suppost to do right? Call your representatives, write? How many Americans do that? How many believe they are represented. Do the numbers lie? What are Bush's approval ratings? How about Congress. If America is being represented why is Bush's approval rating at 25% or less & Congress at 14%? Clear it up for me? Am I the only America who thinks America is on the wrong path?
Let's see, 86% disapprove & your 14% approve, I guess you're right! 25% approve & 75% disapprove, you're the man! You have the answers, too bad they don't line up with the majority! Oh, wait the majority. Where have I seen or heard that word before, was it with demcoracy? How do these guys get voted into office, majority? How long does it take to prove they lied & they were bought into office? A life time for some 18 year old kid who just died for his country!
You might want to ask yourself what is so patriotic about supporting representatives who would cover up the theft of federal excess property, military 6x6 trucks? What kind of representatives would allow one kid to die fighting for his country in a war based on lies after sending them without equipment needed to do the job & then come home & lay in a hospital with piss poor health care at best? Might want to ask yourself why Mike Johanns who was Gov. of Nebraska didn't want to know. The same Gov. Johanns, later as Secretary of the USDA who doesn't return emails or letters about unsaniary transportation & warehousing in the highly subsidized dairy industry when pictures were sent to the USDA. The USDA had to go the the dairy responsible & have them clean up trucks & warehousing that had gone two + years with out being cleaned? When is the last time you stood up for the American taxpayer risking your job? Yea, I'll bet!
Now the same Mike Johanns is going to run for Senate! You're going to have some great representation with this guy as a US Senator! You think over in Nebraska he can't sell you out? Guess again! This two party jokewe call democracy, well it's a dictatorship[ when the President signs legislation the ignors it with executive privalge the excuse.
Why have a Congress or Senate? Why waste the time or money? Call your representatives, write, email, & when you get that auto responder I'm sure you fell it did some good.
